Front Brake Pads
#1
Just been informed by my dealer that my front pads will need replacing within 4,000 miles. I would be interested in trying a different make but have no idea which one, so I need some advice.
I'm not interested in track day performance, just road.
I'm after pads that would:
1. Help with the brake fade problem
2. Not wear down in a ridiculous mileage
3. Not cost the earth
4. Not produce so much dust that I'm constantly cleaning the wheels!
Am I dreaming, or do these pads exist? ..... if so where??
Many thanks in advance.

I recently replaced my done-for std pads with the Prodrive pads (DS2000 I think) and they are much better. Initial bite is similar to std, but they brake harder and more progressively.
I've got std disks, and went for the Prodrive pads to avoid warranty problems... They were £140 versus £90 for std.

I'm on DS2000's as well - much better than standards, with little or no fade (though I haven't tested them in anger on track.)
They do produce dust (what decent pads don't?) but the wheels are still reasonably easy to clean afterwards.
As an easy, cost effective and good performing brake up-grade, I'd recommend these. Leaves any warranty intact too if you buy them through your Subaru dealer.

Would agree with Rich and Paul. Ferodo DS2000, the 'official' upgrade from Prodrive is an excellent fast road pad. Worth paying the extra. Stick them in the back as well.
Only problem is, if you push them hard, these pads (or any other upgraded pad) can overheat your discs and warp them. This is another good reason for sticking with official pads - you should get free replacement discs if they do warp.
Richard.

Spikey the Pagid blue pad(U1406-RS42)is a good alternative to the
standard pads you have fitted now, scan this forum and you,l not hear a bad word about them. They are not to expensive either!!

I believe that the Prodrive pads used to be Mintex, but they changed to Ferodo a while back. There's a posting from Mike Wood somewhere which gives the story (if you can find it).

Pagid Blues are excellent - but as they have such a high temp range (the point before they fade) you might (er will) warp your disks if you use them in anger an track.
Ps the Pagid guy at Autosport said the blues work up to 850 degrees C !!!!!!!! I scarcely believe it - that is well over twice a road pad like the EBC green.
They are probably way overkill for road use.

Just finished my first set of DS2000 v good but not very kind to disks if used hard. maybe I shouldnt bottle it and slow down. Anyway just ordered EBC red stuff pads, Shop didnt recomend green for scoobs. New EBC discs on way as well. More fecking expence.
Will report performance good or bad.
