Default Widest tyre possible on a 7.5" wheel.

Hi all, i've got a set of 17" P1 alloys on my car at the moment. I have measured them and they are 7 and a half inches wide, so I was wondering what the widest possible tyre for them would be? They currently have a 205/45/17, and I want to know if 215, or even 225 is possible?

Advice would be greatly appreciated, Cheers. Alan

Are you sure they are 7.5" wide - the OZ PWRC1 17" Wheel is 7" wide? The 18" rim is 7.5" wide.
As said above optimum tyre on the classic is 215/40R17

Had Goodyear GSDII tyres in this size and were superb.

Thanks for replies!

I may have made a mistake, it probably is 7" because they are definetly P1 wheels. I'll take your word for it as you have one!

Had also heard that it should have a 40 profile, so no idea why there are 45's on it. Every car i've had with 17's has had 40 so thought it was a bit odd.

Definetly fancy trying the goodyear's so will go for them in 215/40/17 next. thanks again, very helpfull

Subaru recommended 205/45/17 but these used to be a bugger to come by or get any decent choice. So most people run 215/40/17 cheaper and a greater choice in that size.
