use the 40's, same tread depth stiffer side wall for better handling, smaller rolling radius for better acceleration.

Ditto to the above - Toyos from BMTR - excellent.

The 45's will be a little more comfortable than the 40's . What do you use the car for, road, track ?

In case you're not aware of what the numbers mean 215 is the width of the tread in mm. Then 40 or 45 is the height of the sidewall as a % of the width, so a 40 profile tyre has sidewalls 86mm tall and a 45 profile will be 97mm tall. Then the one everyone knows, 17 is the diameter of the wheel it fits on (in inches, daft or what?)

As others have said, other things being equal, the 45 tyre with it's extra 11mm of compliant sidewall will be more comfy on the road but the 40 profile with approx 4% less diameter wil give you 4% more acceleration (and 4% less top speed).

A lot of people find that on a classic, the 45's rub, thats why i always say 40's for classics...!!!
