I now need to run without a spare wheel and would like something to provide and emergency repair kit.

everybody tyre fitter i speak to at (it's in my job) says the sealant is good as a get you home but they wouldn't repair a tyre if it's been used as it's too time consuming cleaning it out.
it seems to be ok if your tyres are low on tread so you'd want to replace them if you got a puncture but i wouldn't use it if you'd rather get a puncture repaired.

As above, those kits are just a 'get you home' device.
The one I have says you can't drive at more that 40mph and only for 30miles.
