Someone likes T1Rs too:

Tyres For Subaru Impreza reviews - online ratings for car and track tires

Aren't all these mentioned tyres a bit of a downgrade on an 070? I've not driven on them but they look to be a very grippy dry tyre?

Stick with the RE070's, they can be a pain but they give you lots of feedback, better than some of the above, they are also very good in the wet considering they are a semi slick, its only on the slightly greasy surfaces that they suffer.
Some people do a cheat thing and get a second set of wheels with a different set of tyres on for winter and leave the RE070's for the summer months, may be something to consider

I have just put T1-r's all round a week ago. They did seem to be a bit iffy first of all. I was driving carefully on them as in some conditions the car felt like it was drifting.
I took a drive to a friend of mines this weekend who lives about 150 miles away and that journey seems to have done the trick and they grip really well now. It seemed they needed about a 400 mile scrub in.
I dont generally push my car hard and by no means drive near the limit. However they seem to corner and go round roundabouts a lot better than the yokohamas I have just got rid of.

So a thumbs up for the Toyos from me. but remember if buying these I think I have only ever driven to about 85% of the cars potential.

Default My Experience

I thought the Bridgestone So3's were miles better than Toyo's or Goodyear; So3s have much better grip in wet and dry.

The Toyo's were awful in the wet (cheap for a reason)

Goodyear's seem to affect handling but good grip.

I got 28,000 miles from the SO3s

Just my experience, i'm not stating facts

leave the RE070s on. Subaru know what they are doing when they fit these as standard, it wont have been a decision taken without a lot of ground work first besides the RE070s look awesome

Evo mag just completed their 07 tyre test.
Top three were:

1. Goodyear Eagle F1 asymmetric
2. Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta
3. Continental Contisport Contact 3

Very good reports by EVO, finally others are being enlightened by Vredestein

We run the Sessanta's on 2 of our cars, very good and much more sure footed that the RE070's in the wet/greasy conditions that we see far too often here in the UK.
If you want outright performance in the dry stick with the RE070's, if however you want to maximise performance in our varied conditions try the Sessanta's, yes we sell them but like everything else we endorse profit doesn't come into it, it's because they work

I've been using Eagle F1 GSD3's for a few years and I wholeheartedly recommend them. I've also been subscribing to evo for years (I've bought and subscribed from issue 1), and I know enough to trust their judgement. Not blindly, of course, but enough to know that they are pretty much the leading authority on such matters. The last tyre test evo published showed the GSD3 as the clear winner. As I completely agreed with their 5-star rating for my car ( ) I thought the Eagle GSD3's worth a shot. People here liked them too, and after they'd bedded in, I wasn't disappointed.

Now, most of us don't have the means to buy and test several sets of tyres before we arrive at one that suits our needs and meets our demands, so it's good (and pretty fuggin useful!!) to see tyres being tested subjectively in a respected publication like evo. But...

Wouldn't it be useful to have the last test winner tested against the latest? As far as I know, the F1 GSD3's are still in production and available from your local dealer, so until I hear that the new Eagles are substantially better than the GSD3's, I'm sticking with the "retro" option.

Cheers

Kev

cefski,

GSD3 vs asymmetric wouldn't really be worth while as Goodyear Dunlop will be phasing the GSD3 out. The sizes you can buy are already very limited.

Interesting about the Vredestein, I'll have to add them to the tyre reviews website

I moved from the Goodyear F1's to the Yoko Parada's and found that the ride was much improved. Grip remains the same too and they look great.
May wear quicker though, but they do cost less in the first place.....i paid £380 for 4 x 225/40 x 18's fitted and balanced !!

Smile wider tyres

I found the Goodgear GDS3s were worse than RE40s as they had softer sidewalls and hence why I didn't like them and they didn't inspire confidence

Has anyone tried 225/45 on a WRX standard MY05, or would them tramline.

I'm thinking about the Yokos AV this time

I've done 11,000+ miles on my 17" 225 R070's which came with my 05 STi and I'll be changing them before XMAS. I remain fascinated by those that love this tyre as after several suspension mods and geometry checks I still find the tramlining to be unacceptable, and perhaps even too rigid for our uneven broken roads. I've been driving Impreza's since I bought my first M-reg turbo, so I have done a lot of miles over the years. I'm looking to try something else in either 17" or 18" - probably the PS2. Still haven't decided whether moving to 18" wheels will offer much in terms of value for money

thanks for your suggestions, to be honest i was considering keepin the re070's but im sick to death of fighting the steering wheel every time i drive and with the roads like they are here its everytime i drive and what made it worse is that a friend borrowed my car to nip to the shop and when he got back he said how can u drive that thing the steering pulls everywhere! and its true its a constant battle, im going to go for the f1 gsd3's as ive heard quite a few good things about them and ive been ringing around today i found somewhere that will supply and fit all 4 of them for £350 which i dont think is bad at all
