Default urgent help needed with 4 pots

i recently bought a pair of 4 pots to put on my classic but as i was installing one i noticed that someone had tried taking one of the bolts out that hold the 2 halves of the calipers together and left it half way out

so i tried screwing it back in but it was very stiff so i kept spraying on the wd40 but then it snapped

my question is : is it possible to split the caliper in half so that i can try the get to the half a bolt that is left in there ?

No offense fella but than GOD i took them off the car as soon as i'd bought it and you never got them fitted before finding this!

Greatest apologies for your hassle here mate, but i honestly never knew there was any problem with them.

The calipers CAN be split, by getting the rest of the bolts out....this is how the big Godspeed disc conversion works. A spacer is place inbetween each side of the caliper.

Again, i'm really sorry about this and hope it goes easily and quickly for you.

Nps and i dunno what 172sport is on about, as i doubt you'll have too much difficulty in getting whats left of the bolt out of the caliper.

I cant remember how many bolts there are in total holding each side of the caliper together??

well it looks like when the claipers are split that there will be some of the bolt sticking up so it will be easy sorted with a pair of stilsons , then main thing i was concerned about was damaging anything (seal etc) when spliting it

When you split the caliers by taking out the 4 bolts , all there is between the 2 halves are 2 small O rings , dont loose them as they are hard to get , if there is any of the bolt left sticking out the caliper , then should be able to get it out , I have some bolts here for you to fit another one in , email me your address and i'll pop one in the post for you.

If you cannot get the bolt out , instead of damaging the caliper , send me the 1 half and I can machine it out for you.
Cheers Ian

sorry to hear it never come out. I've been in that predicament many a time.

What i was on about drb5 is, if he used enough force to snap the bolt trying to undo it it aint coming out easy is it.....................
Like i said its no doubt more cost effective to get another, not like there hard to get hold of.

Default caliper probs

hi Mate,

Not trying to change ur mind but any good machine shop should be able to machine or drill out the remaining bolt without damaging the thread as the join between the calipers is a perfect flat face, so should be very easy to hold dowm and drill from the back of the bolt. done it before myself and these calipers are easy to work on.
