Default Fitting 8x17 on classic - Any potential problems?

As above, I am considering fitting 8x17" wheels to my 97 classic wagon.

I have recently bought some uprated brakes and they need a fair bit of clearance. The brakes are not off the shelf items, but are AP calipers with 305mm Alcon discs taken from another car. I have done a dummy build as fitting requires some modification of the hub, and have taken measurements.

I like the look of the compomotive cxr's and as I heard they have great brake clearance I gave them a phone. They took my measurements and built up a CAD drawing to see what would fit. Minimum is 8x17.

Do these wheels fit straight on and how do they affect the handling? I would be putting on a 215/45/17 as thats what I have at the moment.

Any input appreciated.

Cheers, Ali

No one fitted 8x17 then?

Did a search but not much came up, hence why I am a little unsure about fitting them...

Your tyre size ?
Is your lowered in anyway. Just that my car is lowered approx 40mm and had problems with back tyres rubbing in the arches. So had to put on 205/40/17.

Russell. Compomotive CXR's are heavy? Thats news to me...

I tried to get in touch re the volks and was going to nip out to try them on to see if they would clear the brakes but obviously you are away, so a bit of a problem there.

I am away to the ring in two weeks and so by going direct to compo and knowing for sure if something fits or not is cutting out a lot of messing around that I don't need. By the time I have got the volks recoated (don;t like the gold) the compo's will only be £300 more and I have always liked the cxr. As for cash, I would rather not spend it but if needs must...

Thanks for that. Not prepared to change tyres as well, and going by your experience, doubt my 215/45/17's are going to fit.

Even running the volks from russel (^) they are et 48 and I would still have to run a spacer to clear the brakes.

Think Im just going to replace standard brakes with racing fluid, pads and lines and see how I go for now.
