Default Parts needed for a 2 pot rear upgrade

I need a defintive answer on the parts I need to grade my V3 STI to a 2-pot rear set up.

Do i need larger discs? different hubs? are godspeed the only company that makes the brackets? Do i need larger handbrake shoes? etc

Cheers
Dill

Hi Dill
You will need the 290mm discs as found on 2001 onward WRX models , you will need the Subaru 2 pot calipers , and pads to match the calipers , you do not need to touch the handbrake shoes as the handbrake is the same size as yours , 170mm.
We make steel brackets for this setup and currently sell this fitting kit for £70 , you can get alloy brackets , Dyney was getting these made
Hope this helps
Cheers Ian

if you have a v3 2door it should already have the R180 diff/hubs/shafts, however you will have a solid rear disc and sliding caliper (only 2door to have this!!)
from memory you need an adaptor brkt for the 2pot caliper and then simply use later pukka type-R 290mm discs DO NOT use the new-age ones described above..................

hope this helps, alyn

Thanks Alyn, will I need bigger handbrake shoes then as the discs are larger? Or is the actual drum size the same and just the disc brake size larger?

Cheers
Dill

no your car should already have 290mm discs (but solid) and a sliding caliper, complete with the 190mm h/brake assembly...............

it is a 2door type-R v3??

Dill,

Do you have a type R or is yours a 4 door car?

This makes a difference with the discs as Alyn has stated. IF yours is a 4 door STI V3 then it should have a 160 rear end and would require what Ian has stated. IF it is a type R then Alyn is correct.

I think your name is misleading people if you do indeed have a 4 door car and not a type r.

I have viewed your scooby but wondered if you have now changed?

Sorry for the confusion above

It has, the rear solid discis and 1 pot sliding calipers. I haven't measure the size of the brake drum or disc though.

Does anyone one do a complete kit and how much?

Cheers

Ah I was thinking your car was a 4 door sorry , I have seen 290mm solid discs with both 170 and 190mm drum , so I guess you need to measure it to find out what you have

Right this is what I've been offered, 2nd hand, but the guy has been helpful with some info said he had issues fitting the kit to his v3 Type R:

2 pots, ferrodo 2500 pads and the vented grooved discs.

He said:
i had to fit v5 rear hubs on just so i could get the 2 pots to fit

Also:
Drum is same size as what I have now. Its just a straight swap for the discs but you ll be putting on vented and grooved. The problem is the caliper mounting bracket on the hub,the bolt holes are to far apart for the 2 pots thats why i put the v5 hubs on cos they are correct size for the 2 pots.

And:
Now i know godspeed do do the bracket for the UK car sliders which is no good for our cars. What you need is the bracket for the type r sliders which allows you to upgrade the calipers on the same size disc.

I'm still confused

If you have the 190mm handbrake , but your backplates are to take the sliding calipers , can you not just fit the Type R backplates , then just fit the Subaru 2 pot calipers and Type R vented discs ??

Dill, post up your CURRENT disc diameter. It doesn't sound right to me. If you have a type r and it already has 290mm discs then the back plate should already be bigger than say a UK/WRX car and accept the 2 pots.

The only thing I can think of is that your car has the same setup as the Legacy with 290mm discs and sliding callipers that fit on a backplate with different mounting holes.

Alyn and Ian will probably give more info.

I haven't got my car at the moment. I know the pads that go on my sliding crappy calipers are the same part number as legacy ones, don't last long though with track/road use.
