Default Pirelli Tarmac Rally Tyres

Specifically the RE version



Are these road legal?

Thinking of getting some for track day tyres and wondered whether they could be run there and back without running into legailty problems.

Also - anyone know what MSA tyre list they are on?

I'd imagine they're OK. They meet the minimum tread law (rather like Toyo R888s and they're sold as road legal), probably not too good for aquaplaning so take it easy if very wet.

I believe that R888 are E marked - not sure on these

Dunno. Didn't know that an E mark was required for legal use. Anyway my R888s are on order.

The E mark shows that its compliant with EU laws and standards, anything thats not E marked is illegal to use on the road.

The RE is clearly marked 'For competition use only' and is of marginal legality for road use. The RE wouldn't make a particularly good dry track day tyre either as it's intended for use the wet. Go the whole hog and get some extra wheels and some RX's

the RS would be the 'slick' type tyre your after Duncan, normally have a few of these about..............

A gentleman in the the states here is using Michelin N43 <?> Tarmac rally tyres. He was driving around on them with no problems. Tho after 6-7k miles he got a blow out. They aren't designed to be daily driven tyres.

I am not looking to use these as daily drivers - Just to and from track days.
