My original fit tyres on my SIT 5dr are due for replacement very soon. I've read all the stuff in this forum and I'm still not sure what the verdict is on these tyres. Can anyone tell me why I shouldn't be fitting them to my car after Christmas or what would be a better tyre please?
I can get four tyres fitted for £394 all in. The car is a family run about and never goes on track but gets fairly hard road use when I'm on my own!

Well, I went for these tyres in the end and I'm gald I did. Picked up a nail so ended up getting them done in Somerset over Christmas. The first thing you notice is that they are much quieter than the OEM RE010's and they had more grip out of the tyre shop than the well worn but legal RE010's. They also don't tranline at all and there is no more crashing over pot holes. The only down side is a slight settleing time on lateral shift of weight but this is hardly noticable. Now I've done 600 miles. grip is even better. They've transformed the car and provide much more confidence in the wet and ice.

Verdict on the S03 is still out AFAIK.
I've got the F1's and they are brilliant, great dry grip and the wet grip equals the S02, which most people say is a better tyre than the S03...........

Good for you Rob!!!
They'll get better for a bit - we've got a car with many thousands of kms on a set that has been through quite a bit (trackdays etc), and last weekend it still had beaucoup grip - as much stopping power and grip as you could wish for. He did not lose out on grip or controllability vs. cars with newer rubber and perhaps notably, including an S-02PP equipped GC8 STI. (should add that this was on an advanced driving course which included braking, skid control and short circuit work - to name a few a of the fun things we did )
Oh, and did I mention the S03s are on a Legacy?

I'm also looking to change my tyres on a standard MY99 and it seems either S-03's or F1's are the ones to have. Anyone out there tried both on the same car? What are they like on wear? I've got a mate who had the F1's on a Renault 19 16v and they lasted 5 mins.
I've only had experience with yoko's - IMHO A510's the dogs danglies but A520's are a bag of crock.

On my bog standard underpowered MY99UK with SO2's on (and after 1kmiles) could not spin wheels in the damp unless on a lock handled like a go-kart
After 1k miles the rear pair of F1's reminds me of driving my old MK1 rs2000, tail end out everywhere and no problems with doughnuts so IMHO 25% less grip on F1's than SO2's. unless they need a burn out

Who says F1s or SO3s are the ones to have? I've just replaced all four tyres (standard 16" wheels) on my MY99 UK Wagon, with Toyo Proxes T1-Ss and they're fantastic! I could have got F1s at the same price (£89 per corner) but was recommended the Toyos and don't feel I've made the wrong choice at all.

Kinda agree with Simon.
Put 4 Toyos on my 5dr at the weekend. Haven't really been able to try them out properly for grip, but first impressions are very good + more stable in straight line, much smoother and quieter. Had mix of michelins and bridgestones on when car was bought.

Changed my RE010 at 23k for a set of S03 from Micheldever Tyres. Agree with Rob quieter, no tramlining and give a much better grip feel. £380ish fitted not bad. Hope these last as long

Not tried S03 or S02 but,
Between the RE010, Goodyear F1 and Toyo T1S the Toyo is best.
The F1 is about as good in the wet but it goes 'off' in the dry after a little hard driving and starts squirming around.
The RE010 is better in the dry when worn, but then it is basically a slick and so is interesting in the wet.
I think I'll try a set of S03's next (T1S's getting low) as I think the S03 has a much harder sidewall so should make the car handle better. Bet it won't last as long as the Toyo though...
Oh and I can get 16" T1S for £70 and 17" for £80. S03's are about £100 for 17".
