Do you have to change wheel offset going from 4 to 6 pots?

I've currently got 99 spec 4 pots and 16" MY00 wheels on my MY96.
I want to upgrade to 6 pots and bigger discs and will obviously have to go to 17" wheels.
What offset should I go for to clear the bigger callipers, will the same offset do, bearing in mind I have lowered springs and don'tr want any tyre scrub on the arch.?

This came up a week or so ago, if you do a search - remember offset has no relation to spoke clearance on two different make/model wheels - Brand X 7.5" ET53 (say) wheel will probably have a totally different spoke clearance to Brand Y in the same size/offset.
