Brake pad choice
For fast road use on a 2002 STI UK?
I am thinking Ferodo DS2500 pads. Anyone any other ideas? I dont know much about EBC stuff or the Mintex pads
Any help is greatly appreciated
Also, is £197 inc vat a good price for DS2500 all round?

Price sounds about right. I like DS2500 for road use but on track use I overheated these easily and am now on Pagid RS4.2 (03STi with AP 6 pots on front). Downside of the Pagids is they bite fiercely on the road and some care is needed to not do jerky stops, also the rears squeal like a stuck pig despite liberal copper slip and chamfering of the pads. Hope my next track day will bed them in properly and stop this. Alyn (ASPerformance) is the man to supply these.

Pagid RS4.2.1 'black' - excellent for fast road/mild track use. Not as full on as RS4.2 compound but slightly outperform the DS2500s
Like D1CCY says; speak to Alyn @ AS Performance - he's the man! Also does ScoobyNet 'special' prices so worth mentioning the referals.
Got my Pagids from him for the same price as the DS2500s
Cheers,
Stewart.

Pagids (4.2 £135 all in) from Alyn are a fair bit cheaper than DS2500 for my AP 6 pots. Mind you they come 1mm too thick but fortunately went in with part worn disc OK. Next time (when I'll need new discs) I'll ask Alyn if he can get a bit taken off the pads.

Sorry mate, have never used any EBC compounds - only have personal experience of OE, Mintex 1155, Ferodo DS2500 & Pagid RS4.2.1 on the Impreza.
From what I hear on the infamous 'grapevine' the new Red Stuffs use a ceramic compound with performance similar to the Mintex pads, but don't quote me on that
Thought the 1155s were good stoppers (noises and large amounts of dust aside) until I tried the Ferodo and more recently the Pagid
IMHO these two leave the 1155s behind at 'the wee boys gate' in terms of performance and pad life although they are both admittedly a bit more expensive.
But when it comes to brakes and tyres (again IMHO - before we hear the sound of rounds being chambered ) reckon it's better to get the best you can for obvious reasons and the price differential is only about £30-£40. What's that these days? An evening down the 'cruiser'.....
Cheers,
Stewart.
