Welcome to Scoobynet.

Please don't shout, we can hear you.....

To answer your question, yes you can buy a new OEM MY01 wheel/RE011 tyre from Subaru, but will probably cost you an arm and a leg.

They are frequently for sale in the private section, but normally in sets of four....

And by the way, if it is a saloon, it won't fit in the spare wheel well - it sticks out onto the boot about 3".

I have just replaced the tyres on my MY01 WRX with Bridgestone RE-711. They appear to be unique to Australia in that I cannot find them on any other web sites anywhere. They are 1 step down from the SO-3's. My only concern is how they compare to the original RE-011's. Only had new tyres for 1 day so its a bit early. Sidewall stiffness is of concern in that no one at Bridgestone has any data on sidewalls and which offers more flex. Less flex the better.
Any thoughts from anyone on replacement tyres other than SO-3's...........coz i know SO-3's are the best tyre in the world at the moment.
Cheers...

M8, the 711 was the grip master tyre for a while, but has been replaced by the RE-01.

If you track the car, take a good look at them as they have been known to throw a tread block or 3 when very hot (and they get very soft, so if you go off-road etc, check'em then too).

Cheers.

Done a few hundred km's on the RE-711 and they are not too bad. It hasn't rained yet so I cant tell u what they are like in the wet.
However, they are so damn noisy. They sound like a four wheel drive car (Landcruiser or something huge like that)
Do you know of any issues with tyre noise, and in particular, to the RE-711.
Also, can you recommend something else.
Thanks

If the noise is too much (after all they are the grip master - not the NVH master ), then the S-03PPs are the ones IMHO. Lots of grip - easily as good as the 711, and longer lasting (no heat problems either) - and nice and quiet.

For all the extra engineering to work all that out, you pays the extra bucks

My RE-01s are quite a deal noisier than the S-03s, but the Bridgestones are all quieter than certain big name Euro brand rubber that shall remain nameless (and pox on them for being so expensive, noisy and sadly gripless - new word ).

Good luck with your choice m8.

AJbasebloke...

Thanks for the feedback.
Unfortunately, unless I go back to original RE-011, then I will have to stay with the 711. The S0-3 has only been released in a few sizes so far, and not in my size.
Having said thatI can still get S0-2, but they cost $580 each compared to $280 for the 711. Cannot justify such expense considering I am chipping the rex next month and replacing the rear muffler.($2,300). I cant bring myself to buy anything but bridgestone.
BUT......In your opinion....what are the RE-011's like?

thanks again

I can't comment on the RE711 as they aren't sold in the UK, but I went from the RE011 on my MY01 (OEM fit) to S03 and there is just no comparison. The S03 is vastly superior.

At the moment in Australia, we only have S0-3's to suit the HSV Commodores with 18" & 19" rims. I need 17" and even if they had my size, I still wouldnt spend $600-$700 per tyre. It's madness.
I have now pushed a bit with the 711's and they are great. Better all round then the RE-011 but noisier.
I've decided to turn the stereo up louder. haha

What is the step down from the SO-3 in the UK?
And dont tell me the SO-2..

The UK misses out on the RE-01 (and the old 711). The step down is the RE-040, which while being quite a high perf tyre, is now getting a bit long in the tooth.

The 711s have a bit of a slippery top layer, so as you burn through it, things will get better, but they do wear pretty quickly
