Default Tyre choice...just some quick advice needed

Ok...I am getting my Rota's changed out due to my insurance sorting me out with a full set. Same style as I have, just different colour. So wheels are sorted
However I never have been keen on the tyres I have as they are like blooming rubber bands (toyo's), so using the picture below (which has the details), can you tell what is the best size I can get for my classic, which is not lowered at all. Standard springs etc. Ideally I want the largest wall on a tyre I can have, without any rubbing or having to roll my arches.

215/40 or 225/35 should both fit. I ran 225/35 on my P1 without a problem.

This is 18"x7,5, and I think that P1's are 18"x8 so 235 is maybe too much.

215, 225 etc the width in mm across the tyre and 40, 35 etc the wall depth in mm ?? sorry for such a newbie question

215, 225 etc is width in mm: 35, 40, 45 etc is profile as a percentage of the width.

Hence, a 225/35/18 will have a total diameter of 614.7mm.

wheel 18"x25.4 (mm) = 457.2

225x35% = profile 78.75

profile x2 + wheel = 614.7mm total diameter

that is great thx mate , but whilst that all makes my head hurt , could you just explain in real laymans terms what is the widest depth of wall I can have on that wheel?
for example is 215/40 the same as 225/35 due to the percentage?
please feel free to laugh at my lack of understanding

It depends on whether you want it to foul the arches and how far out you want your speedo. Not too sure on what fits best on classics, but the general opinion is that 18's ruin both ride and handling. If you must have 18's then 215/40/18, if you go 17's then 215/45/17.

cheers, yes I do know about the ride and handling..it is a compromise to be honest, I used to have OZ 17"s on there and I do feel the difference. anyhow, the info you have supplied is perfect..215/40/18 will be the ticket.

stevey...are you talking about the pic i put in the first post??

Sorry Stevey, I haven't got a digital camera and have been meaning to borrow the sis-in-laws for weeks. Need it for a few other reasons now so very soon, I promise.

Tony, I'd get them to fit one 215/40/18 and try it on the front and have a good look around it for signs of fouling. Should be OK, but better to be sure.

For a classic 225/35 is the correct size. Well that's what they had on the P1 if you opted for the 18's. 18's on a P1 are also 18x7.5
