Default 18" wheels rubbing on classic

as above, I've got 18" P1 alloys on my classic and I can hear a constant rubbing noise (not loud, but there) from the back of the car. I've had a look at the tyres and whilst they're very close to the rear suspension (spring?, sorry not very technically minded!) they don't seem to be touching them, and they are nowhere near anything else.

I'm taking the wheels off to have a look this weekend but from looking whilst they're on the car I can't see any marks on the tyres.

Could it be the tyres are too wide? (225/40R18)

Any ideas??

To run these wheels on a classic with 225 tyres they need to have an offset of et51, the profile of they tyre should be 225/35. these wheels are also availible in an offset of et48 which clears Brembo brakes but if your using these you should run with 215/35 tyres.

As above. I ran 225/35 on my old P1 for 2 years and no problems. 40 profile is to wide.

They're not too WIDE, they're too TALL...... ie, 40 profile is taller than 35's......

I modded my strut spring cups, didn't take much, used a 4lb hammer and a 12 inch 1/2" drive extension bar as a dolly. 4lb hammer sounds serious but you don't need to give it much welly on the dolly to modify the spring cups.

225/40/18 tyres.

I think they will be rubbing on the wheel arch (outer edge ot the tyre) Could try taking the rubber thingy off yhe inner edge of the arch, or falling that rolling the arches

They rub on the strut spring cups - see my post above, you can check it with a small mirror and torch to be sure.

Cheers, I'm fairly certain they're rubbing on the inside of the tyres (strut spring cups?) So I either mod them (which I don't really fancy trying) or get narrower tyres. Might just swap them for some 17" P1 alloys as I'm not really happy with the handling on the 18" wheels.

Thanks for the help
