Default OEM Brembo's

On a MY05 STI anyone find them a little grumbly (not sure if that is a word !) with OEM pads especially at low speed when cold, I'm guessing with normal use they shouldn't need replacing at 5000 miles

I found the OE Brembo pads on my 03STi did this, I'd describe it as a grinding noise. Change to DS2500 cured it along with all the other expected improvement. Unless you go mad they should last a lot longer than 5k, on the other hand I'm sure you could wreck them with a single track day if you tried hard enough.
