Motul Dot 5.1 warranty issues advice needed
Hi all just contacted my Subaru agent where I purchased my 06 WRX it 7 months old and is in need of its 10,000 service. I have decided to have a small brake upgrade done just received my Ferodo ds2500 pads, braided lines and dot 5.1 fluid from AS performance ( BIG thanks great service) however after explaining what I had ordered he replied with this …..
“We can NOT put the brake fulid in ( as it is a definate NO NO with Subaru technical deptartment ) DOT 5.1 fulid IS NOT suitable ( race cars only ) it will damage the seals , and Subaru UK will not honour any brake warranty claims ( can be dangerous to ).”
any feedback would be great……. I will probably give AS performance a ring for more top advice or go to Halfords and buy the cheapest dot 4 I can and fill its bottle with the bot 5.1
any ideas
Chris

Sounds like the usual main dealers BS TBH..!
IIRC it's silicone brake fluid that damages seals etc, 5.1 is basically the same as dot 4, just has a higher boiling point.
LOL, he's worried about the fluid and not the warranty implications of using DS2500 pads and braided hoses..
Take it to a decent independent specialist and the dealer won't know what's been put in..!..

DOT 5.1 is top of the range fluid for road cars. It's fully compatible with DOT4 so no worries.
Just to prove they know nothing they're also wrong about DOT 5.1 being "race cars only" too. Most pure racing brake fluid isn't DOT5.1 at all but DOT4, it's obviously OK on the high temperature bits of the DOT5.1 test but it fails the long life test becuase it absorbs too much water. Hence why you need to change racing brake fluid every season whereas road car fluids are good for 2 or 3 years.
