Default Falkens or Avons?

I did a search and the general opinion is falkens are ****e but most of those were older posts. I think Falken have changed their patterns and are better.

So Avon ZZ3 at 69 quid fitted or a choice of falkens for about a tenner less?

edit to add I have Goodyear Eagle F1 atm will there be much difference between these in the wet?

60 to 70 quid tyres on an Impreza FITTED?

Get yourself some Toyos or F1 Eagles for good 'cheap' tyres and forget those you've mentioned.

blackcircles.co.uk or mytyres.co.uk or even go down to Costco's.

YOu should be able to get Yoko Prada 2s for that much, which is better than both falkan and Avon imo...If I were you I'd shop about a bit more

Nothing wrong with Falken FK451's and FK452's, they're excellent dry and wet. At least as good as the Toyo's, and use the same tread pattern as the F1's but a slightly softer compound.

I don't have any experience of any other Falken's though.

Had Falkens on mine didn't notice much difference in grip with them between Toyos only thing i did notice was the Toyos did nearly twice as many miles.

If you buy direct from say Falken where do you get them fitted? I'm not sure Kwitfit et-all would be happy to fit something they've not supplied?

You will IMO notice a big difference coming from Eagle F1's to either Falken or Avon. IMHO there is nothing but nothing to match the F1's wet performance. And I have had Potenza's, Pilot Sport's, P6000's to name but a few. None even came close to the grip the F1's provide in the wet. Only downside to F1's is that they don't last too long, due to the softer compound.

D16GER,

might be worth trying an Impreza running the Ultrac from Vredestein, a little bit good in the wet

Nothing at all wrong with Avon ZZ3s - I fitted a set to my RA last winter and have no complaints with at all. Very good tyre at a good price.

Slide nicely on demand too

Not tried F1s on a Scooby but recently fitted a pair to the front of my gf's 205 GTi (1.9 - proper one) and am also very impressed with them.

Cheers guys.

I checked out lots of other forums and reviews and it looks like the Avon ZZ3 is a top tyre for good money. I now can't get them for the same price as they are out of stock. The cheapest I have found them near me and in stock is £82.50 fitted. The usual price fitted seems to be anything up £110 so I don't think that is too bad.

I'll get them fitted tomorrow.

Ring around a few places, i managed to get a local place to fit my last set of tyres for £5 a corner - I find mytyres are the cheapest i could find on the net too.

I've had Avon ZZ3's on my WRX for 12 months now - they've done around 20k miles and still have a decent bit of tread on them.

Been very pleased with them and will probably go for the same again.

OK I had the Avon ZZ3s fitted. Only done about 100 miles so far but it has all been in the wet. They are supposedly a new tread pattern and have a high silica content. Very good in the corners with lots of rain, at no point did I not feel confident in them. Haven't noticed any tram lining at all and they aren't any noisier or harsher than the eagle f1s, about the same I'd say. Will have to see what they are like in the dry though.

So far so good.

Chris
