Question EBC red-stuff noise

Have just fitted the above pads to the front of my MY99 and found i get a sort of clunking noise when i brake while reversing. This is the only noise i get and they're fine while braking normally(going forward!). I fitted them with the supplied stick-on anti-squeal shims. I assume these are fitted instead of the two normal metal subaru ones not as well as?
This is on Subaru 4-pots by the way.

The noise sounds normal to me. It is the pad moving in the caliper.

Agree....
Alot of pad/caliper combinations that use the sliding pins can do this. Especially when new and gunk free....

About to change my front pads too. I am also wondering whichof the shims, if any, to use.

I am guessing that I would just use the outer metal shim as I have a stick on shim attached to the back of the pad. Can anyone confirm this before I take it all to bits?

EBC pad should have either a black plastic type shim stuck onto the back of the pad or these will be lose in the box ready to stick on. These replace the OE shim.

Clunking noise can sometimes be normal, ie moving from going forward to going backings pads do sometimes move within caliper.

Mine do and they are AP's.

Ok so far but i had ds2500's before and i had at least 2 pistons seized on the front callipers so can't really give them a fair comparison!

Can only go by what ive been told Russ .... never had them personally .... im running DS2500's with my AP's and they are excellent .... apart from the dust!

There seems to be fair range of opinions on them, but generally I dont think they're particularly popular!

I had EBC red stuff on my Brembo's with standard discs and had no issues. They were comparable to standard pads. When I changed to EBC grooved / dimpled discs they were awfull because of noise and vibration under heavy braking. I have since changed to DS2500 with the EBC discs and everything much more normal feeling.
