StiR Lincoln

I've had a Type R V5 for 5 years now since new, I've always found the brakes wooden with absolutely no initial bite or progression.They sort of work if you stamp on the pedal but still weak.I've had aftermarket discs and pads fitted a various times but to no avail.
Recently drove a new Legacy and my eyeballs nearly popped out the brakes were that good.
I'd be interested to know if anyone's driving a type R with the same problem.Do all type R's have weak brakes and is there any cure?
