Try 33 front, 28 rear, increase rear to 32 for fully loaded with passengers and high speeds, and to 36 for towing and/or a full boot too.

Alcazar

Oh, mine are T1R's on 17" wheels too, 215/40's.

It's very much a 'each to his own' subject. All depends on your driving style etc. and obviously how many passengers and stuff you cart around.

I've had Toyo's on my classic for 4 months now (same size as yours), after having Bridgestones on I wasn't getting on with the Toyo's until I set the fronts to 36psi and the rears 33-34psi !! - which to me seems a little excessive, but works well for me. The fronts were looking a little under-inflated even at 33psi

A good starting point is always around 30-32psi for fronts and 28-30psi for rears. See how it feels and make your adjustments from there.

Then get yourself a digital guage and check them every week.

On the off chance I emailed the Technical guy at Toyo UK and he replied with the following for cold tyre pressure.

"The pressures I would recommend for the 215/40ZR17 T1R are 36psi front
and 33psi rear."

Any views on that? I did tell him what car I have etc etc.

Gingerbreadman, just saw your reply, which fits with what the man from Toyo said.

RB5Caterham,

I must be doing something right then!! That is good to know. Should have asked the question sooner, but hey, you don't learn anything that way.

When cornering, anything less than 34 in the fronts made the car lean too much, it felt a bit 'elasticy' (?), like it would lean into the walls and then spit you out when you started to exit the corner. - bit unnerving really.

I was starting to lose faith in the Toyo's until I tried a seemingly high 36psi, the car now feels like its on rails again !!
