Refurbing Alloys (DIY job)
OK - basically my alloys need a major refurb, but don't want to shell out £40+ for each wheel.
I'm looking in to doing the job myself. They're 5 spoke silver 16" jobbies, but some of the paint is flaking away, revealing the bare metal. What would be the best plan of action? Leaving paint stripper on? The metal underneath doesn't look too smooth TBH, would it be easy to sand down to flat surface???
Any help??
Thanks Nick.

Refurbed my alloys myself - just mask the tyre off as best as you can (this will take some time!), spray several coats of primer, smooth down with fine grade wet and dry, spray several coats of whatever colour you want, smooth down again and then finally spray on several coats of laquer. Leave to harden for no more than two weeks, give the wheels a good polish and the job's a goodun!!
Don't worry about the paintwork bubbling - did my wheels 18 months ago and they're still OK.

I did the wheels on my wifes Zafira GSi 2 years ago myself. The secret was to make sure I got the paint from a automotive paint factor and make sure
you are super careful with dirt and dust removal . Ie correst primer , tack clothes , and 2 pack aerosol laquer .
