Fitting wider wheels/ tyres to a classic
I want to fit 235 section sticky track tyres (235/40/17) to my STI5 RA. Standard are 215 and I run 225/35/18s on the road tyres, which do catch the arches slightly on track (Speedline GT1s with 52mm offset). 215s to not catch the arches.
So I need to be able to fit 20mm wider tyres. I have more room to adjust the camber - currently just under 1 deg - but should be able to increase up to about 2 deg. Also I could get the arches rolled.
I have to be careful to balance the offset of the wheel and camber angle so that the tyres don't catch the arches or the coilover strut inside.
Also, will I be ok with 7.5" wide wheels and 235 wide tyres for hard/ track use? Or will I need 8" wheels?
Anyone achieved this already and give me some advice??
Cheers
Terry

Terry, we run 235/18 Pirelli rally slicks on our (4dr) car with no issue on Speedline Turini 8" rims..................approx 1.5deg camber all round
the rear arches have been rolled and "tugged" slightly but no issues at all
had more problems when running michelin 200 slicks due to their squarer profile..........

did the paint crack Terry when rolled?
Do you think you can 'over tyre' an Impreza?
You can see many a hill climber with huge rim widths, such as 16 x 9's or 10's with slicks to suit. does this make a difference other than needing DTM type arches?!
Graham.

Hi Graham
Getting the job done on Wednesday - they reckin 4 to 5 hours for 4 arches - so they will be doing a professional job Only £100 total too.
The tyres came along in 235 width so I am making allowances to fit them, along with some severe camber - well 3 to 4 deg anyway (although this will be planned for future).
Also got some very nice Volks YE37 lightweight alloys coming too (in white - should look great on the sonic blue scoob ).
This is all in preparation for next Saturday and my Time Attack Competition at Silverstone

I love the fact my car hasnt got to be butchered and am pretty smug that you think you have to go this far just to stand a chance.
But.... If you did beat me, I would just get a better driver for Round 4. It's the car I want to win..... I dont care about me!
