Question 18" wheels, best rubber

Hi,
I have searched the forum on this subject and found lots of different views which sometimes contradict each other, so I am hoping someone can help me out.
I have 18" technomagnesio detroit F1's fitted to my MY98 Impreza shod in 225/40ZR18 rubber.
With passengers in the back I get rubbing over bumps in the road, and even in the car alone I sometimes get rubbing at the front on full(ish) lock. My suspension is standard for a UK car.
What tyre size would suit me best? Anyone know of any good deals in the Northants area? Has anyone also got any ideas for a grippy tyre in the wet and dry aswell?

I am toying with the idea of looking for a swop to smaller standard Subaru wheels (maybe 17's), but for now any advice would be much appreciated.

Sorry for all the questions but I look at tyres very critically as they are the only thing connecting my car to the road.

Thanks in advance,
Steve

i thought the max width you could fit on a classic was 215s any wider and they foul the arches

215/35 is the most common size, the P1s optional 18s came with 225/35 R18 as these can be had with a higher load rating.

Michelin PS2s are extremely good, but also expensive.

Eco tonloc the recommended sizes for classics with 18's is either 215 0r 225/35/18. I wouldn't go for anything else.
