Hi All!!!

I've recently noticed that I've got a slow punture in one of my front tyres.

I've got a full set of Yoko A539's which have now been discontinued.

Can I get away with changing just the front two or could I just get a single front replacement.

After speaking to various suppliers some recommed:

Toyo Proxys
Good Year F1
Dunlop 9000's
????

I'm at a loss. I don't do alot of fast road driving although I have a type R but don't don't want to fork out £££££ on an unsuitable tyre.

NEVER buy a really expensive tyre, unless you do track days...... cheap to middle price tyres are more than capable in the wet and the dry for normal road use, The ONLY downside i have noticed with budjet tyres in normal driving is more road noise, Hardly a problen on a scoob!

If your not likely to see track action a set of decent budget sports summer tyres like Fate or Stunners will only set you back around £150.. Should be able to get them fitted for £20..

 

Nankang tyres from the site mentioned above will cost just under £150 and about £20-£25 to fit, balanced. A friend of mine has just bought a set for his 'Wagon and he is very enthusiastic about them. He's just crashed though so Im not sure whether his opinion counts!

Idealy you should change all 4 tyres together otherwise if there is a significant difference in the tread depth between tyres your rolling circumference will differ between wheels & could effect the efficiency of the various diffs.

If you're going for new tyres, I'd suggest either the Toyos or the Goodyears.

But, if you want, I have a spare set (4) of used 17 inch A359's with aprox 4mm tread that you can have for say £40 the lot. They're in my Dad's garage & he wants shot of them...

Sorry to say but the bridgestone OEM subaru fit are rubbish, not sure about the S03s. I think Bridgestone tyres are not what they once were, everyone remebers how go the SO2s were, but the competition has caught up and passed surpassed them! IMHO naturally.

I know other tyre places try and charge more, but they are just ripping you off. Stick to your guns and ask them to be sensible on pricing.

lookig to buy new tyres myself , went on a site tyre test and one of the best tyres there was the new falken 452, and on there on there web site for £58 each. falkentyres.co.uk if u wanna take a look a those.

 

I am pretty sure I could draw a graph that shows income V how good you think cheap tyres are

 

I've used Falken FK452's before and have found them very good. Same pattern as the F1 IIRC. They're not the usual discount rubbish that the price may suggest.

The SO-3's are horrible. Worst tyre I have ever had.

I've just swapped them for a set of GSD3's and the car feels so much better it's difficult to believe.

 

I have them on the now legendary 944 turbo.

So it seems that Good Year Vs Falkens. Its not the money, really I'm always cautious in areas where I'm not at least 80% knowledgable. I didn't trust the first garage I tried. They always seem to steer you towards the brand that they can get and where the margin is better for them.

I'll probably use Pro Tyre in Enfield as its my local

If you have got loads of money BURN IT and buy some expensive tyre because of the name.....
I'll drive fast(I would think much faster) and safely paying half as much, what i save i'll go out on the **** with thanks!

I have Falken ZE512's, i like them lots. Great in the wet, maybe not so good in the dry as the tread moves about a bit, but hay, how often is it dry?????

 

I put 4 Avon ZZ3s on my 01 WRX just before Christmas. They cost £85 per tyre and are no better or worse than the Bridgestone tyres they replaced. Bridgestones are £130 a tyre.

I'd agree that you should invest in a good set of tyres - I normally use Toyo T1S or T1Rs, but I'm "evaluating" a set of Goodyears at the moment...

I should have made it clearer perhaps with the mention of my available old A539s but what I was thinking was if ESH wanted the option to have them as a temp stop-gap replacement for his simmilar one with the slow puncture he could have the 4 I have & use the best one until he gets a new, proper, set....

ive got toyos on mine and they're spot on, we used to call the nankan's death racers as everyone who had them ended up crashing! they are ****e!

 

I,ve just fitted Falken ZE512's today replacing my original Bridgestone REO40's and have given them a good run tonight.

I must say they are far better tyres than the Bridgestone's and do not tramline either.

..........and @ £280 a set fully fitted far better on the pocket too but thats not why I bought them. But, why pay £100 plus a corner for Bridgestones when IMHO they are pure gash!

I'm still "evaluating" the F1's, but they seem to be fairly good on first impressions.... Not tried the Falkens though so can't compare.
