Changing the fluid and bleeding won't do no harm and will rule it out - when was it last done?

not sure havent had the car long and it was an import, had to release alot of fluid anyway to get new pads on as old ones were waifer thin. Topped it all up again. I'll leave it a couple days and if need be ill bleed them then.

How did you 'release the fluid'????

You may well have inadvertantly let sme air into the system causing the spongy pedal.....

the brakes might have a bedding in material on them as do most pads this could be causing your problem.
