Question 40 or 45 profile ?????????/

Just bought a set of 17" ST2's for my Classic.

Should i be petting 40 or 45 profile tyres on my rims????

I know that the RB5 has 45's and 40's have a better tyre selection, but what is the best or correct size of tyre to put on my wheels( standard suspension)

Cheers.

40 on a classic like yours, 45 on new age.....

The RB5 had 205/45's...... most people use 215/40's to replace them with though.....

im gonna change my 215/40/17 to 215/45/17 as it feels rather crashy on the 40 profile and ive also just suffered 2 tyres damaged / split by potholes

Depending on which wheels you're using, and also wether the cars lowered at-all, there's a chance they may rub!

Hi, Ive got an RB5 and put the Goodyear f1-gsd-3 tyres on in 215/40/17. They`re a great tyre but Ive had two split on me! If I had the choice now I would have gone for 215/45/17

For some decent tyre reviews try this place

If you want a specific tyre recommended you can't get a better tyre for good money than Vredestein UltraC. My mate had 4 18's on his STi for £320 and in his opinion they knocked spots off his previous Pirelli P-Zero Nero's and the Toyo's before. I drove it with them on and have to say it gripped like brown stuff to duvets in the wet, and he said they're unbelievable in the dry. I'll get them when I need them.

I take it both sizes are close enough to the original rolling radius size????

It seems to be down to personal preference then.

Confused...

Dan, my my00 was originally fitted with 195/50-16's from the factory, according to the size meter thingy....
http://www.tyresave.co.uk/tyresize.html

The 215/40 17 is very near to the original, the 45's are 4% different in rolling radius, prodrive decided to fit 205/40-17's on the RB5's, that is very slightly smaller than the 195/50 16.
This is why most people now use the 215/40's on the classics......the 45's will give a more wrong speedo reading, and may rub..!

I swopped to 17" and went with 215/40 and it seems to be just right, not to harsh and improved the under steer and handling (classic wagon)

So it's down to 2 choices..215/40/17 or 215/45/17...

I understand the 40 profile is the nearest to standard 16" sizes, my only concern is that the 215/45/17's may rub.

I will be running my 17's (ST2's -et48 ) on standard suspension , will i have any problems with the 215/45/17's ??????????

Cheers.

well im going to go to the 45 profile
i got the prodrive / oz p1 wheels
if you look at that tyre thingy, going from a 205 50 16 to a 215 45 17 is a 2.4% increase and a 215 40 17 is a minor decrease....
hardly much of a difference and tbh i cant afford to keep replacing tyres due to splits / blowouts that ive had with the 40 profile goodyears

Prodrive chose 205/45/17 for the RB5 and the P1 because they considered this size to provide the best all-round package. This is what I run on my RA. The draw back is the lack of choice in this tyre size. A lot of the lads run 215/40/17s without any problems - I just went with my choice off the back of Prodrives R&D. HTH.
