Default Wrong Brakes on an STI5

I've just tried to replace the discs and pads on the front of my STI5. However, as of tomorrow, I will be on the 3rd set of pads, and 2nd set of discs. Apparently, my car has completely wrong brakes on the front, the catalogue says it should have 294mm discs with EBC red stuff DP31200C for an Import sti 98-2002. However, on my first attempt to fit them, I discovered that the discs fitted were only 277mm, and pads were completely wrong. Next delivery contained 277mm discs, which fitted, and a different set of pads (DP31134C Turbo 96-98) which didn't. Now having taken the pads out and measured them, and checked against the pictures on the EBC website, it appears I need DP3966C, which are supposed to be turbo 94-96.
I therefore have a MY99 car with front 2 pot calipers that weren't fitted after 1996.

Do I have the wrong calipers, or is the STI5 "funny"? I am beginning to think that one of the previos owners has had a bit of a mess about, but why would you downgrade the brakes?
Anyone else seen anything similar?

Jamie

You should definately have 'SUBARU' 4 pot calipers upfront with 294mm discs.
If not then somebody has replaced them.

Edited the 2 pot rear bit as I misread this and for some strange reason thought it was a STi Type R

Are you sure it's an STi 5... check the chassic code. Version 5 Sti will have subaru 4pots (all Sti's from version 3 should have 4 pot fronts), however version 5 wrx will only have two pots.

As for the rears, lets not go there. You could have anything

Tony.

Possible on import or before left japan that someone swapped the calipers arond. Seen it loads of times before. You should have black 4pots with subaru wrote on them!!
