Default Punture in one tyre, replace the lot?

I have had my four Goodyear Eagle F1s on the Scooby for around three months.

I have just got a puncture and need to replce one(front passenger side)

The guy at the garage I WAS going to buy them from, has told me that if I replace just one tyre it will grip more and put a huge amount of wear on the gearbox and may destroy it.

Is this true?

OR is he just trying to flog me more tyres than I need. He said because its 4x4 I may need all FOUR!!!

Help

If all the other tyres are badly worn, then in theory you'd be putting pressure on the diffs.

But i'd say he trying to shaft you.

Agreed. The same thing happened to me. I rpelaced one. It was fine. If it'd been a year or so, I might have had to give it more thought.

as long as the tyre wear on the same axle is no more than 2mm difference you should be fine

...and a puncture does not necessarily mean you need to replace the tyre, it depends on where it is punctured and what damage there is. A puncture in the sidewall will require a new tyre. A puncture through the tread is often repairable.

Maybe a trip to another tyre dealer would be a good idea?

I had the same problem, like simo says - if theres less than 2mm difference just replace one.
