Default Big brake advice 93WRX

Hi guys, first off im sorry to say that I am not lucky enough to own a Scooby as I love them to bits. A good mate of mine on the other hand dose but has no internet.

Right with that out the way I just wanted to run some think past you guys. My mate has a 93 WRX and has put a bit of money into tuning it. With the increase in power came the need for better brakes so he made the bad decision of changing the front disc's to EBC turbo grooved and pads to EBC red stuff. I carnt stress how bad of a set up this is for fast road as they fade with no warning and caused him to ding the car, nothing major just a wing but still not good. Any way the car is in for a 12K engine rebuild and he needed to sort some stoppers. I sorted him out with some 2005 STI gold brembo's with the 330mm discs. They came of a car at prodrive that had done only 22miles. I also sorted out a set of Performance Friction Carbonmatalic pads and a set of Goodrich braded hose’s

What do you guy's think to the set up and is there any advise or problems you guy's have come across when using the brembo's?

He'll need wheels that fit the STI, apart from that they should work fine....

If the discs are from a 05 car then they wont fit as Subaru changed the pcd of the hubs from 100mm (same as the classic) to 114mm so he will have to get a new set of discs and depending on what wheels he has he may also have problems with the spokes fouling the calipers.

12k on an engine rebuild in a 4000/5000k car is he alright in the heed?

Cheers for the imfo mate. The discs are off a 2005 STI and yes i did realise the pcd had changed. I had them redrilled to fit the old 5x100.

No the guy in the pic is not me, he is the local special person err i mean my assistant manager lol.

As for wheels he is useing a set of 17" wolfrace urban racer's. The guy i know at south west tyers tells me they have supplied these wheels for 2000> STI's and had no problem with clearance as they have a high off set.

12k thats just this bit of the job, he has put 7k in all ready. As far as i know if you want 550bhp+ you need to spend this type of money

If the car is to be so powerful and is having so much spent on it, I would go for a 330 or 355mm AP Racing 6pot set up depending on the wheel size.

It's all money mate, this car is over budget all ready. The brembo's are 330mm but i take it you ment the 6pot AP's. It would be nice but your looking at 2 x as much for the AP's comperd to what was paid for the Brembo's and then new wheels.

In that case I would at least get grooved disk & separate bells. One piece disc can warp easy with hard use and grooves will stop you pads glazing and expel hot gases. Below is a replacement for the Alcon solid 330 disc.

They look sweat mate. How much were the disc's?

I have already bought the Brembo's so no going back now LOL. As in the post befor, money played a big part in this set up as the car is over buget as it is. The only other option i had was a set of 298mm Alcon 2 pice and 4pot alcon calipers with Mintex pads. After talking to Dave (verry nice man) at API i went for the Brembo's and the reson i didn't get grooved discs was because the Performance Friction Carbonmatalic pads would chew through them.

Has any one tried these pads on there scooby with the Brembo's?
