Default TYRES PLEASE HELP!

replacing all 4 tyres on my p1 and I was going to get a set of toyo proxes T1R's in the factory spec size (205/45/17). Apparently toyo have only just made this tyre in this size and is hard to get hold of.

I need some advice, the price of the toyos is good and i have heard good things about them. Do i swap the size from 205/45/17 to 215/40/17 or go for a different tyre?

want a tyre with good sidewall thats confident in the wet. thought about PS2's but they're too expensive really.

Was also looking at the bridgestone RE070...dunno what size you can get them in though.

any info would be great!!

You can find out from here what sizes a bunch of the Bridgestone tyres come in:

http://www.bridgestone-eu.com/upload/album/AP_9562.pdf

Not sure why RE070 isn't there, but I've run on S-02's and then S-03's for years and I seriously doubt that a more well balanced road tyre exists. They are good extremely progressive in the wet and the dry. The are fairly soft and do wear quite quickly but that's the price you pay for such performance. And when they get warm the do go properly sticky and you can notice the difference, not that I could recommend trying on public roads. I wouldn't say they are the stiffest sidewall ever, but I've never had an problems even under sideways conditions.

If you can go to 215/40/17 and can get them for a reasonable price then I'd go for S-03s

I have to second this! Just went (550 miles now) from Toyo T1s to Goodyear F1 GSD3 on an 03 Prodrive WRX with Prodrive 18s and they are sooooo much better! They cut through standing water like it isn't there and have so much latteral grip even in fresh rain conditions (i.e. greasy) that I am now driving well within the car's limits and still having fun. There's a particular stretch of twisty road I communte on every day and have noticed the GSD3 is a lot grippier and far less nervous than the T1s were, even when new. There is a slight trade-off in ride as they seem very slightly harder, but you'll only notice it the first time out, after that the grip levels will be all you'll notice. I don't know how long they'll last, I'll let you know.
