Question Tyre + wheel advice please ..

I have these nice charcoal 17's ( Ex-WR1 STi ) on my nice silver Classic Wagon with RE-070 225/45/17's , but get rubbing between the wheel-arch and the outer edge ..

The question is can I fit less wide tyres like 205/45/17's or are ( as someone else suggested ) my wheels 17.5 tho' the tyres do say 17?

Plus will this stop the tramlining problem ? .. and before anyone says it it's not the driver ! :P

Cheers,

Steve

You have got the wrong sized tyres for a classic. The size you need are 215/40/17 which gives a smaller overall diameter on a 17" wheel. This ia the only reason you are getting rubbing. Newage sized tyres on a classic is a no-no.

Cool Ahh .. Hello fellow Classic driver ..

Cheers Stuart,

Fancy meeting you all the way out here !
Can you explain or recommend the difference between 215/45/17 and 205/45/17 ?!? Someone said Classics use 205's but I dont know sh*t ! ..think mine came with 16's so I haven't a clue !
Plus any brand recomendations ? Was looking at Bridgestone RE-050's on MyTyres.com .. Had them on my 1st Wagon and they seemed ok .
Anyway thanks again,

Steve

The difference is that the P1 and some others came with 205's for differenct width of wheels but most classics tend to run 215's. You should look at Toyo's as a good blend of performance and longevitity. I think you might still be able to get the T1-S at a good price if not the T1-R's are meant to be better.

the "205" refers to the width of the tyre in mm. the "50" refers to the section size (width)of the tyre wall as a % size in mm of the width. you need to keep the overall rolling radius of the tyre the same otherwise the gearing of the car will be wrong and you speedo will be well out. so on a 16" wheel the car had 205/50 while a 17" wheel has 215/40. simple mathematics really.

Yup, you cannot run the RE070's on a classic due to their size, new age fitment only.

Lightbulb Wheels .. tyres ..arghh !!

Thanks guys for the replies ,

Tony .. never got your PM ! And yes , you vultures ,there will be set going up for sale

Okay sticking with 17's .. Only problem is some say with 205's .. some say 215's .. which ?!? These are my wheels..

Seems people here recomend Toyos so will prob go with them . So just to reiterate I could fit 205 or 215/45/17 to these wheels ?
Keep the info coming .. will get it into my brain yet !

Cheers,

Steve
