Hi all,

Some of you might have seen my recent posts regarding my front discs and pads, well i'm now looking at replacing them and have chosen the following, would like some opinions/comments/advise.


Diamond Black Cross drilled / grooved 277mm discs.
EBC Redstuff Pads.


Has anyone used these and whats your comments?

Also has anyone used the EBC greenstuff pads on their scoobs? opinions/advice? (i was told i should use the redstuff and the greens are apparently not up to the job?!?

Was looking at the greenstuff as they were kevlar rather than semi metallic and good initial bite / low brake dust.

Want to avoid bloody brake SQUEEEEEEEEEEEL!!!!

I've got ebc grooved and pitted disks with red stuff pads and braided hoses. The bite is good and there is no squeal at all, but I wouldn't like to try and stop on a sixpence if you had one handy. May try Mintex 1144 pads next time. Discs look the business.

only used mintex 1144's once before and had a bad experience (pad material came away from metal backing plate ad squeled like ****!)

deffo use the red stuff as they are so much more resistant to fade

ive had blackdiamond discs befor and they where crap as i got judder
ebc discs where much better

Probably not considered to be the cheapest/best, but my perfect combination has been std discs, Prodrive pads and braided hoses. Improved in all the areas required.

Low brake dust, better initial bite, and generally stronger, more confident brakes - and not a hint of squeal..!

make sure they are redstuff CERAMIC and not the old redstuff which was crap.

Redstuff Ceramics pads are very good! Better when properly warm but still got good bite when cold

i have this set-up front and back! very very good......only problem i have is that i have no abs so it locks up fairly easily!

Roojai, I was looking at the redstuff ceramics, cant remember the site but say a graph sort of thing for the EBC pads showing efficiency, both green and red apparently good from cold,on the graph redstuff ceramic best when warmed to 100C on the chart? whats the bite like when cold compared to standard pads?

peachy WRX, sounds good, do you get much brake dust from the redstuff pads? what about squeel? I've heard that semi metallic compound pads have a higher tendancy to squeel than other things like kevlar and the old and now (i believe) illegal asbestos based pads.


STI craig, brake judder hmmm? was that defo down to the discs? did you find out if it was just the design of the disc or could it have been manufacturing prob / warped discs?


I'm pretty sure I know what to unbolt to change the disc, anyone got a link to a guide for a 96 impreza UK turbo? 2 pots!!!

Depends what you want to do with the car? Road use or track use?

I wouldn't suggest EBC green stuff EVER for a scoob. They are not for heavy 4 wheel drive cars and if you ring an EBC supplier he will tell you this. The are more of a hot hatch pad.

Im about to try Pagid Yellow's in mine, bought from stockcar on here, will let you know how they fair in a while. They will be for track use only though, but being an endurance pad should hold up pretty well.

We had a customer on the phone today asking about replacement discs. I asked how his Ceramics were doing, mileage wise. He said about 10k so far and plenty of meat left on them.

EBC Technical, would NOT recommended using Greenstuff pads on any Impreza Turbo.

Buckrogers, I'm kinda unsure which to choose now

I'm gonna go for the Diamond black drilled/groved discs but undecided about pads...

Narrowed my choice down to:

Redstuff
Redstuff Ceramic

What do you think the pro's and cons are of each?!

Will possibly get pads from you so a price would be nice, and part numbers

Just to confirm my car is an N reg 96 Impreza Turbo UK type, and my current pads DO NOT have lugs!!! Calipers are the standard 2 pots. and this is for the front

could i have the price and part no's for both please

and whats your delivery charges and times?

Redstuff is being fazed out and replaced with the much improved Redstuff Ceramic.
There is no price difference between the two compounds.
Redstuff Ceramic = Cold braking "OK to Good". Once warm the pads are excellent.

Part required should be DP3966C (Redstuff Ceramic).
Part number for the old Redstuff compound is DP3966.
