Question EBC Red Stuff

How do people rate these pads?
What they like, do they squeak a lot?
Perfomance?

I have some on my car, they stop very well. But theer is a downside, I think the disk are warped and i have had them on the car for about 5000miles and there are very near the wear limit. I don't know if this the normal case.

They dont last very long at all. If you really need uprated pads then spend a bit more.

Am currently trying some EBC Yellowstuff'R' on mine. To early to say what their lifespan is going to be.

Have tried pagids before and I think they are a fairly decent pad (little noisey and dusty). Ferrodos have good reviews and I would probably be most inclined to buy those if the std OE pads aren't good enough.

Hi,
Had these pads on my Calibre turbo a while ago, i found them to be not very heat retentive, ie throwing all the heat back into the discs, within 500miles the discs where warped and starting to crack around the drilled holes!! Not good!
I think to use these pads, a good quality pair of discs is recommended!

I had Red Stuff Ceramics on until recently. Lasted 6k, or 6 months The OE things which were on when I bought the car (2nd hand) were more than half worn yet lasted longer, including a trackday. I'm now running Ferodo DS2000's and apart from a little squealing at low speeds they seem excellent. Nor sure how they're gonna last, but initial bite, especially from cold is better than the EBC's. I won't be buying them again

Thumbs down

i have red stuff pads and they r pretty ****£, they are good when heated up but i think my discs have started to warp too! i have only had for 3000 miles (new discs and pads).

the standard pads and discs are better to be honest. ****£, wot a waste of money me thinks!

makes funny whirring sound under high speed braking too, any1 know wot this is?

the "whirring" will most likely be the grooves on the disc.....................

Got some on mine - they felt really promising when I was bedding them in and I thought they were going to be really good, as above though once bedded in they are ok but they take a few stops to warm up and I am wondering if my discs may be starting to warp (put new discs on with the pads). I much prefer the Mintex 1155's that I had on before and even though I found them a bit aggresive towards the discs and dusty, I would rather have a car which stopped than one that had clean wheels.

To be honest, the information Scoobynet is really Pi**in me off now..

When i was looking for new pads, everyone rated the Red Stuff Ceramics and thought they were excelent pads..soo i went out and bought a pair...Reading this thread its quite the opposite...

Anyway....my thoughts:

My Brembo's came with the Ferodo DS2000 pads, which i thought were completly rubbish...though as they were there i thought id make use of them..have had the red stuff in my car for afew days now and already feel the braking to be allot harsher in other words they seems to be working great in comparrison to the DS2000.

..not sure of wear of these though i would guess if you cane your brakes 24/7 they would wear out sonner then expected...though thats just my oppinion...

I would suggest you do a search on the RED STUFF pads....and you will find allot of information on it..

Good Luck

Sam

No.

Redstuff Ceramic compound are performance road pad.
Yellowstuff compound are Track.
Greenstuff is not recommended for use on Impreza Turbo's.

I've just ordered a second set of Ceramic reds as the old ones are getting worn and the discs are blue, and things are juddering when hot. They were a lot less juddery than the DS2500 were with AP discs, and they have had a lot of abuse with mid-high 400s BHP, and a trackday at 400 BHP. They are hard, even on AP discs, which I think will only do 2 sets of pads at this rate. So, I found the pads to have a short and happy life until they get cooked.

Thats the funny thing John. The ceramics were fine on track but didnt last the mileage on the road.

EBCs trackpads (Yellowstuff 'R') are fading with road use.

My ceramic reds are lasting quite well. They do indeed need a bit of warming up but are pretty good when up to temperature. It shouldn't really influence your decision but they are the cleanest pad I've used.

I too am now beginning to think my discs have warped. I fitted new Godspeeds all round with the pads.

My first set of Red Stuff Ceramics are about finished after 8,500 miles. I recon they brake well from cold and excellent when hot (with groaning noise).

They survived a thrashing in the Isle of Man at Christmas (without any fade) and anyone who's been there knows that's a tough test.

Also fitted Goodridge hoses all round and upgraded to 5.1 fluid.

Cheers

Anders

How many miles did you get from them?

Is this road or road and track?

Buck,

People seem to be getting very low road mileage from the 'Ceramic Reds', myself included. Typical mileages I've seen on here are 6-8k.

Care to comment on why EBCs trackpads - 'Yellowstuff' 'R' are fading with road use?

Question

I've just fitted some red stuff pads with my tarox gooved discs. (don't know if they're a good combo) but was just wondering is it worth putting the grease/lubricant between the shims?? i see no real need cause there is minimal movement with the pad and the two shims cause of the retaining pins either end of the pads+shims?

I'll have done around 5-6k since then. Trouble is I'm also in need of pads & discs on the rear too. I was thinking my brake degradation wa due to the 5.1 fluid needing bled but I'll have to look at my pads tonight when I get home. I'm not a heavy braker really and I suspect I'll have quite a bit of pad left but after reading this thread it's made me think bit.

Road use only BTW.
