Newbie requiring help please
I have a 2003 WRX that needs some front tyres. Any help or advice on the following would be gratefully received.
- Should I stick with the same makes as the rear tyres ?
- If not which are the best makes to go for with reasonable wear and grip
- What else should I consider ?

Its always best to keep to the same type of tyre front and rear, some will say it doesnt make any difference but tyres from different manufacturers/makes will deliver different levels of grip at different times.
If you were to change all 4 though, id suggest something along the lines of the most popular choices, Goodyear GSD3, Toyo T1R (new ones) or stick to the bridgestone RE040's if you like them.

I have just renewed my both rear tyres, I have always renewed all 4 at a time and I believe that is best ...... however,
my fronts are fine so only needed rears, did my homework as I want long life over grip and opted for Falkens - £72 each fitted, balanced.
Always had Michellins and get 2 years out of a set, about 20,000miles ......
I am hoping the Falkens will deliver 2 years and 20,000miles too

Agree with the comments on Goodyear F1 GSD3's, Toyo T1R/S's. Also worth considering are Vredestien Ultrac. A mate of mine is now running them on his STi after using Toyo's and he says they have much more grip and a steady progressive breakaway. IIRC he paid £320 for a set of 4 225/35/18's. He had to have them fitted elsewhere to acheive the trade price but that's hardly an issue at that price. Theywere ecently tested against 7 other leading tyres in a magazine article funded by Michelin, and they beat them hands down, and are also reported to be amongst the best lasting of current tyres. I have 205/45/17 Vredestien Sportracs on my WRX which were £240 from the same place, and although not as good as the Ultracs the are superb for the money.
Try HERE , not sure if they're nationwide.
Also worth looking up your nearest Motorsport Wheels branch, as they often do very good prices.
Keep clear of the Kwik~Fit profiteers
