Hi, i have a '97 GL and I cannot get the rear wheels off. As you may know-the rear brakes are brake drums. Are the wheels connected to the drums in some other way apart from the nuts? The fronts come off easily, but the rears don't budge.

More than likely the wheels have just welded themselves to the hubs - not literally, but you know what I mean. Can you recall the last time you removed them..? If it's been a few years then it might explain why they're being very stubborn.

Got access to a rubber mallet..? If not, ensure the car is jacked up but also very secure too and kick your tyre walls, making sure you rotate the wheel and distribute the effort. After a while the wheels should come loose.

When I put wheels back on I always use a small amount of copper grease on the hub and the nuts.

use a nocometer and they will come off basicly the alloy and steel react / oxidise and fuse together causing the wheel to be stuck on . a few smacks with a hammer and it will come off . but before u refit the wheels . clean the hubs and put some copper grease on them .

As above, the problem is caused by sacrificial corrosion between alloy wheel and the steel wheel hub. PLEASE, please don't hit your alloys directly with a hammer, they won't like it at all. Hit them with a wooden or rubber mallet, or place a piece of wood on the wheel rim and hit it with a lump hammer.

If that doesn't work, I've found that a bottle jack between the wheel rim and some solid part of the suspension can prise the wheel off.

Copper grease on the mating surface between wheel/hub will stop this problem happening again.
