Then give them a polish and wax, stops the stuff sticking again.

Tesco do liquid Soda Crystals in the cleaning products area for about £2 for a trigger spray, a la Wonder Wheels etc. It was recommended in VW Driver Mag a while ago. I bought some and it works a treat. Top Tip and cheap to.

Wet the wheels. Squirt it on then scrub up to a foam with a brush. I use a 2 inch wide paint brush, cut short to about an inch long, bit stiffer for scrubbing. Leave for about 10 minutes, time to do the other 3 wheels. Wash off, you may have to give it some elbow if it's bad. Finish off with a good polish. Presto!!! Clean and shiney.

The wheel cleaning products are generally poor at removing tar. dab on some Autoglym intensive tar remover for sticky tar spots, and the wheel cleaners will cope with the rest.

I was told by an Alloy Wheel supplier that once the wheels are clean, only use soap and water, as the detergents OR acids in the cleaners, can cause the paint to lift n flake

you really want to avoid any acid-based cleaners as they can attack the lacquer. Any nicks and it'll start eating into the finish.

Wonder wheels is good, but it ruined by alloys after a few years use.

Get your Meguiars from here http://www.bigjohnsbits.com/

I have used them for a clay bar, great service and as cheap as anywhere in the shops!

go to seriousperformance.co or .co.uk, can't remember which.

alex Creasy who runs the company is a current scoobynetter who had an sti and now runs a skyline.

Everyone commented on how spotless his car always was so he started a company on the side.

Think he gives scoobynetters special prices adn I know he stocks maguires and all the microfibre cloths.

I just bought a bulk package off him for spring when the weather improves.

Quite right. Wonder Wheels is dilute concrete acid. If your laquer is damaged you will wreck your alloys using it.I tried Muc off which worked a treat and is great under the bonnet too.

A good alternative to Wonder Wheels is AutoGlym Clean Wheels. Kinder to lacquer, apparently.

I've been using it for a couple of years, together with a specialised wheel cleaning brush, also an AutoGlym jobbie. Both are available from Halfrauds. No complaints yet.
