I'm due a pad and disc change on my 4 pots soon, and I'm considering the redstuff ceramics.

The only concern I have is over the performance from cold. Do they need warming up or are they fine with low pad/disc temps?

They're fine. You'll no doubt take it steady for the 1st couple of miles to warm up the engine and oil anyhow, so they should have a bit of heat in them by the time you really need them.

 

They're fine once you've once they've been used once or twice.

I was caught out shortly after fitting some to my STI V, I drove into a car park, brakes were cold, pulled into a space, admittedly in a hurry, pushed on the pedal...... crunch, the car ran on about a foot more than I wanted causing the front spoiler to hit a concrete support for a temp fence, luckily only causing a few scratches.

Learnt my lesson and now I take more care, i.e warm them up first with a few gentle applications.

Other than that they're excellent when warm, have little brake fade and vitualy no brake dust.

Camskill do a good price.

If you ignore the above "how not to drive" technique you'll be fine with the EBC's.

 

Thanks for the replies - they sound fine to me.

I always drive gently while everything warms up, so the brakes will have some heat in them before I really need to stop.

 

Thanks for the comment ozzy, this was meant some friendly advice I was trying to give so it's maybe be sensible to not ignore it.

Mike, It's the brakes you have to warm up not the car, It's just that when you've used the standard pads, these take a little time to get used to but as I said I would def recommend them.

 

Are all Red Stuff pads the Ceramic type?

I'd NEVER try and be accurate with any brakes when they're stone cold, especially tearing into a parking space. That's why I'd blame the driver and not the brakes - even OEM ones.

EBC changed the compound on the Red Stuff pads about 18 months ago to the current Ceramic compounds.

I think most of the posters above have been using the old compounds as these were absolute **** when cold and not that great once warmed up.

The new ceramic compounds have AMAZING bite, even when stone cold.

I used the old red stuff pads on one of my scoobs and always vowed never to use them again. However I've read so much good stuff about the new compounds I decided to take a chance and give em a go (on an Esprit not a Scoob), definately highly recommend them.

Agree with the above comment about Camskill, they were a good price and arrived next day.

 

I agree, the old "Reds" were good on Track but iffy when cold

I have them on my STi Brembo's and are Brill Hot or stone cold You do have to 'run in' for about 200miles, as there is a special compound on the Pad they are also £40+ cheaper than DS2500's and £130 cheaper than Subaru OEM's

Motorsportworld.co.uk are doing them for about £93 delivered, if you're not bothered about having them in the original packaging.

you learn to live with the cold preformance

not sure why people say they are ****e, there far better then the stock ones IMO
i used to cook them with one hard stop
