Default Vented Rear Discs on a Classic

I have a 97 UK spec turbo which has 266mm solid rear discs as std.

I see that Camskill do a Vented version which from their website seems to suggest that they will fit my car.
Sent an e-mail to confirm fitment suitability and supplier was not 100% sure and felt that the caliper mouth might not be wide enough to accept the vented discs.

Has anyone had experience of this?

If it means swapping the caliper then I'll just stick to solids.

Thanks,

Tim

Pre-99 cars had a 266x10mm solid disc as you know. The MY99/00 cars have a 262x18mm vented disk, it is probably these which Camskill have. I have warped several sets of the solid rears and am currently fitting complete late model WRX hubs and brakes to eliminate the problem.

You could fit the MY99 rear calipers, should be quite cheap, they use a different pad pattern as well though.

Thanks for that Andrew,

I have ordered a 335 godspeed kit with EBC ceramic reds also ordered matching pads for the rear.
Can't stretch to Godspeeds big rotors for the back so I was just going to replace with std ones until I noticed these vented ones.

Seeing as I have pads on the way for the 97 spec calipers I'll just go and put standard new discs on.

Cheers,

Tim

apart from the later '99 on UK cars mentioned above the early leggy turbo's and jap spec WRX's also use the vented rear disc....................the calipers are different and you will not be able to fit the vented where a solid disc is std.......

you state your "warping" rears?? sticky calipers?? poor pad compound?? very strange to have massive problems with the rears...................
hope this helps, alyn - asperformance.com

As far as I know you could use the callipers and larger discs from a legacy, 290mm Vented?, and fit them on the standard hubs.

I had rear Legacy turbo calipers with vented discs. Your old pads are fine for this calipers. No problem to fit.
Now I have WRX 2pot rear on my MY98 this is much difficult job to do ...

I have literally yeasterday done a solid to vented upgrade on the back of my 95MY. it is a change of calliper, calliper carrier and disc. The pads remain the same. The job is pretty straight forward too. Got the callipers and carriers from HDC Subaru for about £75 inc VAT and carriage.

Incidentally put the standard 4 pots and largers discs on the front at the same time. Major improvement in the feel and braking power on the car. Also worth noting that braided 'Goodridge' style bake hoses improve feel no end by reducing the spongyness of the standard hoses.
