Default Budget Pads for 2 Pots

When I say budget I don't mean as cheap as poss, just under £60 or so; what would you go for?

Calipers on my GL are from a JDM MY98 WRX, so I presume are the 'later' type of 2 pots. Pagid 'Fast Road' pads any good for £48? EBC Greenstuff are what I have at the moment and are just under £60. Mintex 1144 are £68, worth the extra?

I only bought the calipers with pads and disks in june, was told the pads were 'almost new' but must admit I didn't check. Have only done 4k miles or so since then (though a track day is included in that) so I'd have expected better life than that.

Any advice? TIA

Ben

Ben,

The pads have loads of life left in them!! Are you sure they are worn to excess? 4K does seem a low for how much was left when they were taken off mine.

The pads you had on when I sold you the callipers were EBC greenstuff, but people here would probably say go for red stuff or Ferodo ds2500 or the Mintex 1144.

Without offending you, who says the pads are worn out?

No offence taken mate, I haven't even looked myself yet so maybe I'm asking a bit prematurely! The mechanic doing the MOT last week told me they only had a couple of k miles left in them, I was sat in the car on top of a ramp at the time so wasn't able to see for myself! I'll have a wheel off in the next few days and try to look for myself, must admit I wouldn't really know a worn pad from a new one so I'll have to measure and get back to you. Cheers for posting Wayne.

Oh by the way, it does look from the Motorsportworld site as if there are two sorts of greenstuff for 2 pots, these are the codes. Hopefully it wont be necessary for a while anyway.

Impreza 2.0 Turbo ; 94-96
DP2966

Impreza 2.0 Turbo ; 96-98

badly worn pad would have 3-4mm left between disc and the pads back plate. New pads have about 12-14mm of material

Dont just put greens on the rear, unless you already have greens on the front!

Reds are the recommended compound for Impreza Turbos.

Thanks Andy, I'll have a look in some daylight.

Buck it's no turbo It's a 1.6GL but with 2 pot fronts from a MY99 (IIRC) WRX, still got drums on the rear so no worries there! Cheers though.

Well the pads on the outside have about 8mm left, am I safe to assume the insides will be equally worn? Didn't have enough light in my garage to be able to see. Looks like I can put off the new pads for a while yet though. Cheers guys.
