Need to swap all 4 Bridgestone RE050's (OEM) on my 03WRX very soon and wondered what tyre will give me the best blend of long life with decent grip?

I managed to get 20k from the 215/45/17 Bridgestones (to my amazement) but have nothing to compare them to in terms of wear rate. Also they are quite expensive to replace.

 

i got 17k out of my original bridgestones on car (MY01) then swapped to toyo's-these have a good write up and are a lot cheaper-about £94 each i paid against £143 for bridgestones-but i found best way to make tyres last longer was to buy a second car then just keep scooby for best lol-done this just over a year ago and still loads of tread left on tyres now hee hee

 

What sort of price have you been quoted?

When i rang round there was a £60 per tyre difference in cost!

When I changed from WRX to STi I was amazed that the tyres were significantly cheaper, something like £100 for four. I assume the WRX uses an uncommon size (215/45?) while the STi's slightly wider and perhaps lower profile (225/40 is it?) are more common so cheaper.

So is fitting the STi size to the WRX an option? Both wider as well as cheaper would definetly be a result!

Not sure if they fit though, the arches are the same. Not sure about the wheel width and offset though. Worth a look I would think.

 

Had Sti alloys on my Bugeye wrx with no problems, the tyre size is 225/45/17. Now got the real deal Sti with a spare set of wheels for sale.

Anyone know any good places near heathrow that'll supply and fit the toyos for a decent price. i.e sub £100 each.

A lot of tyres now have a Tread Wear Rate marked on them.
ie. Goodyear F1's are (200) This is a quite high wear rate.
So you should be looking at a good brand and a rate of about (300).

I don't have the full list to hand, will try to find it.
