Default So Which Tyres?

Hi,

Need 2 new tyres on the back, got some Yokahamas on at the moment, was a fan of Eagle F1's before, anything else worth considering? I presume the brand just has to be the same on each axle, not all the way around?

205x50x16 for what its worth..

Dont say PZero's tho, I Hate those

Rgds,
Dan

I've tried Goodyear F1's (GSD3 variant) and Toyo T1-S in 18in fitment on my 01 wrx and have to say the F1's were better than the Toyos.I have just recently replaced all four tyres with Toyo T1-R's (225/40x18) and I have to say I am really impressed with them both in the wet and the dry.Turn-in in the wet is fantastic as I felt my F1's wanted to aquaplane.
T1-R's have definitely gotta be worth considering over anything else!!!!

Good luck

Nick

Edited to say that I had Toyo T1-S on the front and F1's on the rear but now the car feels more balanced with the same brand of tyre all the way round!!

Avon ZZ3's have good reviews on here. I just ordered 4 x 205/50/16 from Camskill for £276 delivered next day.

Have read that mixing tread patterns on front/rear can cause unpredictable handling. Never tried it though, and never will.

Does anyone else have any more thoughts on that?

Clearly it's likely to change the handling, but I can't see it'd make it unpredictable. However I have read of bigger issues with different treads on the same axle, so i guess it's just a variant of that?

not quite not, just a local independant. been good in the past, but i suspect he can't actually get them in, so maybe thats it. He just mentioned how those tyres are the ones that always come "free" on aftermarket alloys etc

Definitely dont mix tyres anywhere on these cars. I mixed F1 GSD3 rear with Bridgestone front with disastrous handling and stability probs, changed the fronts to match the rear and car perfect again.

Cool

When I got my car it had different tyres front and back. It was awful to drive in the wet, back end would slide at only the slightest provocation. It handled worse than my old Astra GTE!!
I will be looking for new tyres myself soon. Had mixed comments on the Toyo's, been told the side walls are a bit soft, if you want to give a bit of stick round the twisty bits.
Andy.
