New brakes Smoking - Help...!
Just got TSL Hi-Spec 6Pot Brakes with Ferrodo 2500 pads..
The Discs are new and so are the pads....
I am in the bedding phase, but have noticed the following, and not sure if its something to worri about or not?
When i drive the 1st time, the brakes were making a loud wining noise whilst driving...
The next day it werent so bad...3rd day they were ok with gental braking....
Then i tried braking on a open road, not hard but gental stops from 50mph down to 20mph afew times, the dics got really hot they started making loud noises again, i stoppd and they were smoking for about 15mins.. but once the discs cooled down they were ok...The noise would happen even when driving without pressing the brakes.
Seems like the pads were moving when the discs get warm..is this possible?

the worst thing you can do with new pads and discs is get them too hot and then stop to "cool" them down.................................normal advice is to drive for around 10miles without using the brakes (easier on a motorway, etc.) to allow them to cool naturally!!
when stationary you are allowing the part of the disc that is "masked" by the caliper to be "super-heated" as the rest cools..................
the 'bedding-in' procedures of discs and for pads are normally totally different needs..................ideally 'bed' new pads on old discs - new discs with old pads of the same compound!!

alyn,
Replying to your post to me in another thread...
I have TSL Hi Spec 6 POT calipers, the discs have been resmkimmed, the pads are Ferrodo DS2500 and are near new..
TSL advised that i do 10 consistive starts and stops to bed the brakes...but i got alitle worried when the brakes starded making the loud noise's after whilst the discs were still hot, as soon as the discs cooled down they are ok...How odd..?
Any thoughts?

Hopefully they used copper slip when putting them back together and not normal oil or grease as this will burn off and create plumes of smoke. to bed in brakes AP reccomend breaking gently from 70 to 50 if I remember leaving to cool down between breaks 20 times......
