Only 7k miles.
I couldnt believe it myself. Turned up to a local scoobymeet and Rob talked over looked at my brakes and told me my pads are low. That why they have been squealing for past week or so.

EBC Ceramics come with adhesive backed anti-squeel shims. Also liberal amount of copperslip also help. Fitted mine last week with new discs and havent heard a sqeak yet.

Bob

PS I had pagids 421s before which were rather noisey.

If you change pads and disks at the same time they will all bed in much quicker, but I don't know why he says you should do it just because your pads are low.

I saw this thread and have always steered away from EBC because of the bad write up they got, warp disks and cracking etc...

Just been talking to a very pleasant and helpful guy at Camsport (www.camsport.co.uk) and he said avoid the Greenstuff. Apparently they were developed for the Nova boys to pose around town with and not get brake dust on their lovely wheels. EBC then shot themselves in the foot and developed some for fast cars like Scoobys. Problem was that they get very very hot and cracked/warped disks.

There are two EBC pads that are good for Scoobs. The Red Ceramics and Yellows. Yellows last a little longer, have a little more dust, take a little longer to warm up and are slightly more expensive, but apart from that perform the same.

So Reds it'll be then. He says retail is about £98 + vat but can do them for £53 + vat (Yellows for £69 + vat). I didn't ask about postage but can't see it being that expensive. These are probably the same price as Halfords own brand.

Ray. He doesn't know who I am so it won't matter.

It might be useful to others if we post on here how well we get on because they are new this year and mostly untried by the Scooby community - bedding in time, first thoughts, fade resistence, etc...

Bought some Apec pads from my local factors for the princely sum of £30

They had 300ZX or summat on the box but were for Impreza 4 pots too. Stops the car all the same but with a little more dust than the previous OE ones. Bought the discs for £90 as well so quite bargain for £120 all in less than the cost of OE pads from Subaru!

No!

Discs to not need to be changed just because you are changing your pads. Unless your discs have reached their min thickness.

It is advisable, to buy new pads when replacing the discs. Advisable but not complusary, depends how much pad life / condition of the old pads.

(When you say "low", there are not metal to metal, are they?)

Very good pricing.

Can you tell me what model Impreza this pricing is for?

There's no way this can be for 4-pots, looking at the website for an 98-> impreza they are £68.02 (+VAT =79.92). The cheapest I have seen these anywhere is £97.34 so this is a really good price! Please prove me wrong!

Note that these will probably be the old type material not the new ceramic one.

I think you need to quote this reference to get the discount:

*** I MONTH ONLY **** QUOTE THIS N>O> M1inter
to get a further 25% off all EBC disks and pads.

They are also doing 15% off all Tarox this month also

BuckRodgers - standard 99 turbo with 4-pots

SpeedyDaveB - the guy at Camsport said RRP £98 + vat but can do them for £53 + vat. Approx £6 p&p. Definitley new Ceramic Reds - I had a 15 min conversation with him about it. I did ask why the discount and he said it depends how much profit you want to take. Just goes to show what a rip off other companies are.

I haven't bought them yet as my pads aren't as low as the Subaru dealership made out (surprise, surprise), but I think I'll buy them tomorrow just in case he doesn't discount them in future.

Maybe the price was just for me because I'm such a nice guy, but I hope it was his current offer so all can benefit.

Regards
James

P.S.
I'll post when I buy them, and recieve them to confirm what they are.

**UPDATE**

Sorry to inform people but Andy at Camsport made a minor error and quoted me on just Reds. The Ceramic Reds are priced at what Ray paid, i.e. £65 +vat and not £53 +vat.

I believe he made a genuine mistake and was very apologetic. He has a 25% offer on at the moment (that won't last forever - Hint Hint) which only brings the price to about £75 + vat, but he's flexible on this and wants to help people out as much as possible hence why Ray and myself got them for a further tenner less. I'm sure he'll do £65 + vat for everyone, if he has the stock in at the prices he paid.

Judging by the amount of people that have called and bought since I posted yesterday, people think this price is a bargain.

J

P.S.
Camsport do sell more than what's on their website (which he admitted needed revamping/updating) and he will try his best to do a good deal on everything he can so it might be worth enquiring about other things you need. Not tyres though, I asked that one.

Just ordered some ceramic reds today from Andy at Camsport for my 4-pots at £78.20 inc. VAT and a pair of 293mm turbo groove disks at £164.50 inc. VAT. That's about £60 saving on the next cheapest I found!
Not sure what postage is costing me tho as the goods are coming from EBC directly to minimise costs.

Unipart Dot 5.1 brake fluid is £4.70 per 500ml if you need any.

Thanks for the info guys, that's about £120 I've saved this month thanks to SN !
(bought some whiteline ARB's, droplinks and ALK, goodridge hoses and braided fuel lines this month - my missus says I should have just bought a new car!)
