Unhappy Cracked disks, an issue?

Guys,

I’ve noticed that I’ve got cracks appearing in my aftermarket disks. The cracks appear to be hairline fractures which emanate from the hex shaped bolts which hold the bell and the disk together (that’s the best I can describe it). The most of the cracks are no more than 1cm long although I do have one which has propagated all the way from one of the ten bolts all the way to the outside of the disk.

My questions are;
1. Is this unsafe i.e. my disk isn’t just suddenly going to fall apart on me?
2. Will the problem just get worse and worse?
3. Should I be having a word with the supplier as these disks can be no older than 8 months and have definitely never seen a track and rarely hard driving?

Any help people can offer would be very well accepted.

Cheers,

Chris.

Take them off, examine them, get in touch with the supplier and see what they say.
Any form of crack on disks is not a good sign, i wouldnt use the car until you have sorted this problem. It could cost you alot more if you do.

Chris

"Is this unsafe"

You bet it is..............

Small cracks are common in the disc face on high performance cars but any crack that is near a mounting or gets to the edge of the disc is very very bad. From what you describe, it sounds like the discs are about to fail.

See what AP Racing have to say. I think we'd all agree they should know what they're talking about.....

Chelspeed, Mike Wood, mgg,

Thanks for the advice guys I will be taking some photo`s over the weekend of the cracks that are appearing in the disks and I`ll be posting them up here.

Do you think that this is the sort of thing that falls into the realms of unfit for purpose goods which should be replaced by the supplier or is it tough **** and I`ll have to buy another set myself?

Thanks

Chris

I hope that you'll not be driving the car before the weekend as a failed disc whilst driving is not something I would recommend to anyone.

I would get in touch with the supplier as soon as you can.

Please, please do not use the car with the discs as you describe.

If you were to get stopped by the Police or Ministry Tester then your car could be prohibited from use.

Worse still if you were involved in an accident.......................

Nathan..

As you say they are "no older than 8 months" they should still be covered under warranty. Speak to your supplier ASAP.

Did you fit them yourself or did a garage do it for you?

awd wrx,

How`d you know that? You`ve not been stalking me or something like that??? LOL

I`ll also refrain from naming and shaming as that doesn`t really accomplish much (unless the supplier tries to play silly bugger$ with me!)

Thanks
