Question

I am just about to replace my 16" tyres before the winter weather hits us.

I currently have SO2 PPs which I have been happy with. I am thinking about the same again, Goodyear F1s or Toyo Proxes.

Does anyone have any recomendations for where to get any of these at a good price in central Scotland?

I have only tried shopping around in Perth so far but have not been able to get quotes for SO2s or Proxes. Best is £120 for F1s.

NTS in Edinburgh used to do quite good deals on SO2s and Proxes for SIDC members and I will try them at the weekend.

Thanks in advance for any useful suggestions,

Ian

Cool

Swift Tyres in Whitburn can do you a good price on the Toyo Proxies. Call John on 01501 741548.

McConnechy's in Broxburn (used to be Gorgie Road in Edinburgh) have quoted me quite good prices for SO2 PP's in the past. I was looking for SO2's last week but they said that they had all been sold and they could only get SO3's.

As I was only looking for two tyres I went elsewhere.

The old number is 0131 443 6196, ask to speak to Scott

I have never had a good price for performance tyres in Scotland.

I have used Elite Autos 01708 525577.

They specialise in performance tyres and you will get a good choice of Bridgestone, Pirelli, Good Year etc immediately available. www-elite-design.co.uk

They deliver overnight and I have usually got 2 tyres supplied, delivered, fitted and balanced (locally) for just over the cost of doing 1 tyre up here.

I had a Lancia Dedra that ran 195/50 ZR 15 and I got 2 S-02 fitted this way usually for about £140.

Locally, I got quote about £110 per tyre.

Good luck

Just got Toyo's to replace RE010's, so far very impressed.

Quieter, smooth ride, look good!

Paid £100 each fitted/balanced. Dealers are listed on www.toyo.co.uk

Also I spoke to AFN Noble Subaru (somewhere in Scotland - sorry not sure exactly!) a few days ago, as I bought some alloys & tyres off them a while ago and thought I'd see if they had any more going cheap. They didn't - but were very keen to sell me tyres, so they might do a deal!

The very helpful Eddie is now the manager of NTS at 394 Ferry Road, Edinburgh (telephone 0131 551 2171) and is still offering good deals for SIDC members.

He quoted me the following fully fitted prices per corner : -

Toyo Proxes T1-S - £88
Goodyear Eagle F1 - £98
Bridgestone Potenza SO2 - £107
Bridgestone Potenza SO3 - £122

I liked my last SO2s and so went for another set whilst they were still available. He didn't have them in stock, but managed to get them in by the next day for me. They are now on the car and being run in for the dodgy winter weather that has just hit us up here!

I may go for a set of Toyos for my spare (track) wheels after the next track day.

Hope this is of use to some of you.

Regards,

Ian
