Thumbs up

H
To get the hoses off you will need a open ended 10 mm spanner to remove the rubber hose from the steel one. I used a brake pipe spanner (looks like a ring spanner with the end cut out so you can fit it over a pipe)to split them.

Any more questions just ask

H,

I've got a feeling that you will need spanners rather than a socket set for a couple of the bolts.

And find out the easy way to remove the ABS sensors.

Question

Doing some work on my car this weekend, with a mechanic freind of mine to show me the ropes.

One of the jobs is a good serivce of the brakes. I'll be fitting hoses, changing fluid and fitting new pads to my car (MY00). Also I will be removing the front and rear calipers for a good clean and a paint up (foolishly some v.abrasive alloy wheel cleaner that striped them down....never again)

Can someone tell me tools I will need (&sizes) to remove front and rear calipers and to remove the brake hoses, because I cannot see these easily until I get the wheels off the car. Mostly I just need to know if there is some special star bit or something I am unlikely to already have in my toolbox already.

Already got brake fluid, cleaner, pads etc etc.

Thanks all...... H.

Copper grease on both sides of the shim pad. Some plastic gloves. I found 7 and 11mm bleed valves on our Pug the other day and I didn't have those sizes, but had the ones you mention - Halfords sorted me out with some brake bleed spanners. Gunson's Eazi Bleed system works quite well and puts new fluid in under pressure. And leave the car in gear on a level surface with chocks Sounds obvious, but ....

Well, I am mid job on my car MY00.....and the brakes are a complete **** to clean up (calipers that is )

I noticed that the rings on my pistons (the pots or whatever they are) were a little corroded....is this an issue?

Thanks for the post John.... I've left it in gear, but not convinced it is gonna make a blind bit of difference

Best get on with it now. Car is getting colourcoded and new spoiler also this weekend.

Whilst it is on my mind, can you get those rear bits of trim...the black corners in the photo....can you get them off without removing the rear bumper???? It does not look it from underneath, but I didn't want to go removing the whole bumoper to get them off.

LOL
Rear bumper if i remembr correctly there are four plastic clips, two either side, one top and one bottom. You will probably break these as they are plastic and a b1tch to remove but don't worry as they are 79p plus vat each from dealership. Then you will need to undo the bumper mounting frame this is 4 nuts two either side, I can't rember if the rear exhaust mount needs to be undone.

Just call me a plonker, just read the thread again. The corners are attached by a couple of phillips screws, these tend to rust so plenty of wd40 then leave them for a hour and then try to undo them.

Hope this helps

Houlbt,

If you haven't removed the black bits from the rear corners yet I can tell you that you don't need to remove the bumper. If you look underneath you will see a bracket from the bumper bolted to the body (chassis leg if I remember correctly) and if you unbolt it you will find that the bumper is very flexible and you can get your hand in to undo the screws. Refitting, as they say, is a reversal of removal I did mine that way so I know that it can be done.

Ok....Scoobynet BBS is back in business so I can post the following.....

Got the wheels on my car, ...but sadly not the spoiler or skirts, the weather was not kind enough to allow for painting (do not have the luxury of paint shop at my house you understand)

Rob.....the photies as requested;

Hope that helps. H.

Just a quick note about the rear bumper and trim.

Last night I removed the side skirts and rear trim to get colour coded. I would recommend removing the whole bumper as it is dead easy. It is differcult to reach the 2screw each side to remove the trim.

The screws for the trim where rusted solid and had to be drilled out..

Good luck..

Not to mention the amount of mud you get in your mouth!!!

I tried removing mine but they are too rusty to do with bumper on the car.. so bumpers are sat on floor waiting for me to strip them of trims and lights!

So it all depends on the age/mileage/condition of your car then When I did mine the car was about 9 months old (and clean ) so it was nae bother
