Default grooved discs - which way round

ive recently bought and fitted myself some black diamond grooved discs

when i changed them i fitted them as per the stickers on the box & on the disc (ie left hand side of vehicle/ right hand side of vehicle). At the moment the grooves are coming from the centre of the disc and running towards the back of the car.

Now....when i popped out to visit friend (reputable rally car builder btw) last night, he commented, well laughed actually, about the fact that my discs were on the wrong way round. he said that the grooves should go towards the front of the car, he explained that the grooves throw the dust away as the disc rotates, which in theory sounds feasable.

Who's right. Black diamond, my mate or both ?????

BTW car is an Sti5

I've run them both ways round as I've never been able to get a difinitive answer either way. My conlcusion, after many many hard road and track miles is that it don't seem to make any difference

please note that this is my observation and based on nothing scientific whatsoever

AFAIK, it is dependent on each manufacturer - some have the grooves going one way, some the other.

Again, AFAIK, in some cases it is the vents as opposed to the grooves that should (or can) determine on which side the discs go. ie if the slant they are 'handed' to provide better cooling.

This is second hand information so I have kind of forgotten the details

But the long and short of it is, as I have been told, that there is no 'right way' for the grooves to go. It depends on the manufacturer, their design of disc/groove,the vents, material I guess - probably everything -but not soley the grooves.

you need to fit them as that particular manufacturer has intended..........................do not compare one make with another's instructions!!

some discs are purely "fashion" and some designed for purpose and this can make a big difference in their orientation..................
hope this helps,
