What discs/pads for MY98?
#1
The front discs and pads on my MY98 (2 pot calipers) will need to be replaced soon.
I plan to fit the new discs and pads myself but am unsure about what to go for.
Unlike almost everybody else who talks about the 2 pot Impreza front brakes, I've never found the braking on my car to be deficient although I've not done any track days so far.
I'm looking for good quality durable combination but at a reasonable price. Good pedal feel is essential.
Disc options are:
1. Brembo Group N discs - about £90 for pair.
2. EBC vented discs - about £115.
3. Tarox, Black Diamond , Pagid too expensive I think.
Pad options:
1. EBC Green or Red.
2. Mintex - noisy and dusty.
3. Pagids - good but expensive.
What do you think?
I prefer Brembo/EBC pad combo at the moment.

I've just had my MY98 brakes changed thus:
Swap hoses for Goodrich braided all round
Swap fluid for dot 5.1
Swap pads for Pagids all round
Leave discs alone
I then did 300 miles scrub in then an airfield day at Kemble, the car brakes much truer and more predicatably with the above changes than when I'd done it before with the standard brakes.
I'll be looking for front discs myself in the next month, anyone got any suggestions?
I'm not ready to change the calipers yet, want to do this when I go to 17 inch wheels in future.
Simon.

I'm going to fit a pair of EBC Turbogrooves to my MY98 in the very near future, I'll be going for redstuff pads. I'll let you know how they go.

The EBC pads should be ok for road use but arent great for track use. Some people use the Greens succesfully(like me) and others prefer the Reds for longer life. If you are hard on brakes get the Reds.
If you are after track performance then probably look at Mintex 1155, Pagid RS4-2 Blue or maybe Ferodo DS2000
