Red face

Fitted some mintex1144's to my 97 WRX a few weeks ago and apart from squeeling a bit on initial application they also have an annoying habit of often squealing like a little piggy when I'm not even within a squirrels whisker of the brakes! They tend to squeal oscillating on/off. I reckon its the front discs that are warped and the new pads have highlighted this due to their habit of being noisy??.....opinions?

cheers,

Dunno, but when I used to have squealing brakes, always used to take the pads out and apply Coppa Slip between the calipers & the back of the pad. This allows movement between the two & leads to less squeeks.

May not be the answer but worth a try.

.cheers...tried that though! ..applied loads before I put them in and took 'em out and put even more on later. Don't mind squealing when braking but the slight squealing on/off most of the time, even when not braking sounds pants! godamn brakes!
Think some new discs required....

Anyone had an experience of 3G discs? Seem like quite a bargain. £119 inc. VAT

Matt

If your disc's were warpped you would get brake judder big time.

Try this, remove each pad in turn, note the leading edge eg the section at the top as the disc rotates. Chamfer these leading edges away carefully on coarse emery cloth. 1/8th of an inch diagonally should do it, ok!

Always works for me

Dukey

Was thinking of Mintex 1144 or EBC green along with DOT 5.1 in our 406 V6. Which are less squeally? I don't want 1155 as the way the wife drives they will squeal all the time (I have to give the Impreza a good thrash after she's been driving it to get the brakes and engine up to par again - it really does feel slow after she has been driving it, and takes a few miles of dedicated driving to get it feeling like usual again - I think it just enjoys a good thrapping!) On the 406 - our quiet comfy cruiser and the wife's mainly, I just want better brake feel and bite, so I can slow to a suitable speed for corners with confidence if I forget I am not in the Subaru). Believe me Subaru brakes are incredible compared to some other 200bhp cars like this 406!
